To be honest, things like this make me mad......sorry OP !
How can someone compare a 6.2 L engine vs 4.0 L engine ?!?!
Throw a 4.0 L in the Vette, and than we will talk again !
Or even better.... throw a 6.2 L in the ///M3 and a 4.0 L in the Vette !
Same thing we see with Merc-AMG.....6.2 L vs ///M3 ,or are this big guns needed to beat a ///M3 ?
And yes.... the answer we all know

kinda funny to see how current M3 (powertrain wise now 7 years old) is still compared to the latest sports iconic cars, kinda says the value of M3 there whether it won or lost the competition

Even in another year or two when the new f8x m3/m4 are out and the 991 is 4 years old, it still wont touch the 991 in terms of anything performance related, but may come close to the same 1/4 mile. It will provide as it always does a great value and a great alternative given the need for space/practicality to a 911, but will never match the overall experience amongst a list of others things.. The 911 is the benchmark to which they (and all others) strive to achieve, and rightfully so.

Edmunds recently did a review of the 991S and the C7, and both were neck and neck in performance with the C7 putting down a faster lap time but the 911 being faster in a straight line. In the end, the 911 won because it is simply the best and the complete package of the 911 is something no other car in the world can touch. Is the same reason why two years in a row the 991S and then this year, the 991 4S beat out everything under the sun as the best driver's car in the world.

The C7 is a great value and great performer, no doubt. I personally would never buy one though.
I agree. I find it interesting, though flattering, that the car mags continually go after the M3. For a complete, streetable package, it's unbeatable. 991 is spectacular to just look at, for it's timeless design, inside and out.

Love the new Vette, a serious contender in every way it sounds like. I thought the review was objective and well written. However, disappointing to be told the C7s interior is still lacking in quality vs. the BMW given the $69k price tag. I'm glad it's "monumentally" improved.

The M3 cant be beat for the money, but money aside, the 911 as an overall complete package is superior in any aspect sans the practicality. I also love the timeless design and the fact that still to this day it is one of the best looking cars to grace the road. Both the M3 and 911 are benchmarks, the M3 in the sport sedan/coupe segment and the 911 in pretty much all else.

Just the fact that amongst some of the best cars it was picked as the best driver's car 2 years in a row over the likes of Lambo, Mclaren, AMG and all the other cars competing says a lot.

I never cross-shop between a BMW and a Corvette
Same goes to the BMW vs. Porsche.
Nonetheless, nice car.

For a 2LT Vette you can knock off another $4k.

Buy a 4 door

Just buy a 4 door M3. As Jeremy pointed out on Top Gear.

"Now your kids can have their spleens crushed, too."

My two kids are happy in the back of, "coolcar" my E36 M3/4/5, and the E90 is much bigger. If you're talking about trading in for the inevitable Minivan...nevermind. Those are wonderful with infants. Not many cars let you walk to the rear seat en route...

It is fantastic how great of a car the E92 M3 is to this day! I still miss my M3.

At some point, I will have an M4 as my DD and the C7 as my weekend/track car. BMW is in my blood.

This comment surprised me about the C7...

"Then there are the Corvette's optional magnetically adjustable dampers, which shame the M3 when it comes to ride quality. No other car can so thoroughly destroy a race circuit before turning around and coddling its fatigued driver on the interstate journey home. All it takes is the turn of a knob."

I'm glad to hear that ride quality is very good on the C7. GM also seems to have nailed the steering. Hopefully BMW will have the same quality electric steering in the M4. Who am I kidding, of course they will

C7, M4, 991 are all on my future car list, along with a couple others.

Believe or not people to cross shop these cars.

the irony of that is that they admitted to rather have the m3 as an everyday driver.

C7 is a good car only in US.
Take into account the fuel consumption and the taxes that must be payed for such a car in Europe
M4 will decrease quite a lot the fuel consumption over the E92 M3, but will also increase its performances.
It is for sure a cultural difference when choosing the cars

True, but the E92 is already 3K over the C7's sticker as tested, and the new M3/M4 will likely carry a 80K+ sticker when you add a few options. That will be more than 10K over the C7's sticker.

Also, when the new M3/M4 hit the dealers, they will probably try to market it up or do MSRP for a while, but by that time you should be able to order a C7 with good discount.

Performance wise yes it's very interesting to see (I think the new M3/M4 will be closer to C7's performance figures, but still won't be that close), but when we see new M3/M4 on the street the market price of it may be 15-20% higher than a nice C7...

Not saying it's fair to compare the C7 with E92, but IMO it also wouldn't be fair to compare the new M3/M4 with C7 due to the significant price difference.

Another thing I want to see in the new M3/M4 is if it will have a new adjustable suspension system, the 3rd generation Magnetic Ride Control($2K option on C7) is MAGICAL. Tried it on a ZL1 and it beats any other adjustable/adaptable suspension systems I have ever encountered.
