What is the cable connected to hood for?

Hey All. I have attached a picture of a bolt that is connected to a cable that is circled in red and was wondering what that cable was for? grounding?

Thanks.

IMO this.

Probably it is actuated from the driver side hood release mechanism.

Part 12 here.

Anybody knows for sure?

Makes sense. But I actually never knew it was there, it seems that there's an eyelet for putting the bolt through it. I'm thinking for grounding purposes? Cause it's free hanging if you just unscrew it? <shrug>

Bowden cables are used for latches, those are not on the hood portion of the M3, they are in the nose panel.

The strap you see is to keep the hood from leaving the car completely.

Its a simple ground, all the metal in the car is grounded, and that is a ground cable to ground the hood. When we where painting my car, I removed that, and I forgot to ever put it back on, its nothing really.
