IIRC, there is a new mandate coming Jan 1, 2021 for max of 5% copper in brake pads with copper free by 2025. I'm not sure if the compounds have changed yet but it will be interesting to see.

Here's a fun challenge: in your next HPDE outing, try to run every lap within a half-second of each other for the whole session. Don't try to set a new PB and go full send on every lap, just try to be extremely consistent.

Once you can do that, up your pace and continue hold it to within a half second.
For a whole session it's almost impossible, you'd have to be the only one on track.

Does make u feel good when u can post consistent lap times, regardless of the actual "pace".. something to be said about that

My first session with my AIM Solo, I had something like 5 laps in a row that were within 2/10th of each other.

I was happy with that until I saw I was losing a second or so in different parts of the track with each new lap, but still, "consistent" lap times.

Sure, if you have traffic it can be tricky. What I mean is that anytime you can get in a clean lap, you are within a half-second of all previous times.

What I do in traffic is concentrate on hitting the driving line absolutely perfectly. You would be surprised how much easier it is when you are only driving at 7/10ths.

Earlier this month I attended a two day track weekend HPDE at Homestead Miami Speedway hosted by the local Porsche group (PCA). I recently bought my stockish 2010 E90 M3 6 speed after driving a buddies E46 M3 and loving it.

Compared to my last "track car" which was a 1999 C5 Corvette, the M3 was amazing on the track. It allowed me to push further into the corners without fear of spinning out and the handling was superb.

With the C5 the best I could manage was around a 1:54 at the track. With the M3 I was consistent around 1:52, with my best time of the weekend being a 1:50.9. I know the idea is not to compete for times but my friends and I just use the times for bragging between us (we were definitely slow compared to the Porsches).

I've still have a lot to learn on this car and tracking but I can't wait to go back out there. Sebring is looking like it'll see my M3 early next year if I don't do another Homestead.

Side note: The only "upgrades" the M3 has are squared 19x10 359M with 275/30 fronts and 275/35 rears, and Hawk HPS pads on stock rotors with Motul 660 fluid. I am ordering VNE rotors from FCP as my current ones have a lip (95k miles) and I am sure I finished destroying them at the event.

Sounds like the perfect setup to learn that car in. Nice job!

My car is ready for my final track day this year at Thunderhill West 12/12. Can't wait to try out the 600/900 along with Titan7 with RS4 tires.

Need to ditch the HPS pads. Go for a DTC-60 or something like that.

It'll be OEM, yes. Thank God.

Thanks it's so much fun at the track and I probably haven't gotten close to the limit yet.

On the factory rotors? I went down the rabbit hole of looking at BBKs, better rotors, makeshift calipers from other companies with brackets, etc. but in the end decided the lifetime warranty of FCP was good for now since it's also a daily driver.

Or do you mean to swap out only for track events? I'm all for suggestions!

Swap for track days, yes. HPS is not a track pad. Once you start going faster you will overheat them and find yourself in the gravel trap, or worse.

Makes sense, thanks! I only went for HPS as I was putting the same component types that I had on the C5 before I sold it. Now that I really want to continue with the M3 I will keep the DTC-60 pads in mind.

FWIW, FCPeuro now stocks Hawk DTC60 too so that is inline with your lifetime replacement. I just bought a set of DTC60 for my wife's M2

Finished off my first big event with my "newish to me" e92 M3 at barber. It was previously M3MPH1S car as a few of you know.

My personal best at barber was a 1:40.64 in my 2017 ss1LE 2 years ago and a 141.34 in my e46m3 3 years ago I have about 400 laps at barber so pretty familiar with the track, however I haven't really driven cars in about 1.5 years, been spending time in my shifter kart. Saturday I ran a 1:43 on street tires, a 1:40.8 on slicks.

Saturday evening I had a battery light pop up and realized my alternator was not charging properly through my aim dash. Crud. I went to 4 auto parts store and was somehow able to order one for Sunday delivery at 8 am, tore my old one out at 6:30am on Sunday, back to the track and had the new one in by 9:30. Back on track by 10. Phew thought I was done for the weekend. Who would have thought.

Best time of the day was a 1:37.6! New PB for me and a fairly fast time for this platform, however I have a close friend and very fast driver who was able to turn a 1:35.5 in my own car so I still have some work to do for sure. Turn 1 and the kink i can absolutely carry much more speed through. Still quite happy with my own PB, and the progress I made through the weekend. Vids to follow.

I was there in a grey E46M3. I love that track. I am sorry for not coming over to say hi.

Dang! I feel like I've known you via this forum forever haha. Dark gray big wing tt3, playing with the yellow ZL1 all weekend?
That was me! We had some fun out there.
Awesome man! I started off so discouraged in the 143-144's but gradually got much faster. Finally started passing the ZL1's at the end of the weekend which made me feel better. The last session of the weekend was a lot of fun with the advanced 2 mixed in with us. I actually like driving in traffic!!
