Launch Control Fail... :(

Tried my first launch today and, well, it's probably my last.

Settings:
DCT S6, EDC Sport, Power sport , servotronic on, DSC off obviously

Race flag came on, revs at 5500 like normal, let go of lever and got insane amounts of wheel hop through 1st gear then wheel hop stopped at 2nd but 2nd didn't even get any grip at all and it shifted into 3rd. At this point I was only going around 40 and therefore 3rd gear at 4k rpms...not a fun experience

And yes I followed instructions, drove for more than 7 miles, everything was heated up and I had been driving spiritfully for 20 minutes prior to launching

If anyone has advice on what went wrong it would be appreciated

I should note that it was 70 degrees, straight incline, regular paved surface that isn't super slick but just normal, Michelin PS2s with 4k miles on them and ZCP

I really wanna try it again but if this is going to keep happening, I'm way more down for MDM S5, flooring it and watching the revs bounce to 4k then going without any wheelspin, wheelhop or DSC intervention

Lemme know people!! I have a vid of the launch also so if that'll help I'll upload it

Have you tried EDC on comfort to get better weight transfer to the rear.

thats what i was thinking but would it have that much of a dramatic difference?

its weird because if im just DSC off, same settings as above, and mash the throttle, no wheel hop

That and decrease take off rpm to 4000 using the cruise control arm before you let go of the shifter.

Good question, not much. Flooring it in MDM doesn't get you up to 4K though before take off. Also there is a debate about LC has a software that allows for harsher acceleration and shifts. Also you will not be on S6 if you are on MDM. Also if you meant flooring it on MDM while on D5 then car will upshift automatically at redline but if you floor it on MDM on say S5 it won't so be ready for upshifting which under these conditions it's impossible to judge where us 8400RPM but automatic(D5) or LC they both shift at 8400rpm no matter what the tacho needle speed is (it's definitely slower on 1st gear)

You launched one-handed while videotaping with another? Darwin awards are often given posthumously...

+1, Public road or not, probably not the best idea for both safety AND technique. I'm gonna give him 2 smacks to the head . Lol

It is these reasons I ordered a new M3. I did not want to purchase someone elses car who beat the %$#! out of it. I know once in a while may be okay but according to the manual they put a warning in there to cover themselves when you break something from using the launch control. One thing I noticed with BMW is that they will try to void parts or all of your warranty if they see anything that they feel they can get away with. Maybe they put that feature in there so people will use it and then when something breaks they will say pay up.

little harsh there amigo. more power to you if you are able to afford brand new and willing to afford the depreciation that we see right off the lot (even if our m cars dont have it as bad).

just because someone did launch control doesnt mean the car is being beaten to shit. they wouldnt have put the option on the car to perform launch control if it wasnt capable of handling the activity. Plus if you buy a used M I would hope youd look at CPO where theyve maintained it to the specifications the factory wanted so you know the history is clean or as clean as can be expected.

i would highly doubt they "put that feature in there so people will use it and then when something breaks they will say pay up." bmw does not equal nissan.

@dibxna As what I wrote above was my opinion and I am entitled to that, I did mention that once in a while is probably fine. I simply said this is why I purchased a new vehicle so I don't have to worry about how it was cared for.

Other than my one launch, I pretty much baby the thing

Going to try another launch today with above suggestions and then call it quits

That's quite a conspiracy theory.

Dct or 6mt, wheel hop is just something you have to deal with on cars with irs sometimes. I'm thankful that it's not nearly as bad as my 350z was.

with the e60 m5 and e63/4 m6 M-SMG transmissions the dealership/bmw tech(s) can read out how many times the LC has been used, not sure if the it's the same for the M-DCT, but I would assume so...

I have an X5M and just went from 40 mph to 60 mph in 1.5 seconds while in 2nd gear. What's the point of launch control btw? Is that how you get the fastest 0-60 time?
