All sensors passed outside of the evaporator, which wasn't ready. This was only after 50 miles of driving. I'm running stock cats like imstimpy mentioned, you may have to swap back to stock, load the file and drive ~50 miles before you'll pass. Good luck!

BrewRifle, you are right about swapping back to stock cats in order to pass with ESS emissions file. AJ from ESS just responded to my email confirming that. Their service is top notch.

This is a must if you want to have the readiness set correctly. The only other option is our high flow cat X-pipe which will also work due to the primary cat placement and design.

Are you going to have to switch back and forth every time you want to get inspected?

It looks like it, yes. Not sure its worth the hassle. Not for me anyway. To do it once is ok, but i am not doing it every year. Romans suggestion about ESS high flow x-pipe looks like a good idea, but again, selling an old x-pipe and buying a new one means spending more $$$. I have to figure out what to do.

And I agree about the hassle, not to mention my car would be insanely loud with the GT2 coupled to anything outside of stock x-pipe. Maybe 6 resonators wouldn't be bad? =)

Thanks for the information on this thread.
I can confirmed passing emission in VA without primary cat with ESS VT1-550 readiness file. I have mini cat installed on 2 downstream O2 sensor. Rest of the systems is stock other than primary cat delete. Using Autel OBD2 reader I can see all emission component readiness set to ready in about 5 complete drive cycle. 02 and Evap took the longest to get ready and I think driving faster (at least 55 miles but less than 60) in the O2 readiness cycle helps. I was worried that I need to put the primary cats on every time I do emission but apparently mini cat will suffice. |

When you loaded the ess emissions tune do you get any odd codes from Carly? No cel or ses lights just 27aa 27ab codes. Thought it might be due to bigger injectors with the ess kit on this emissions tune. Thoughts

I think you should clear all fault codes before the drive cycle. |

I passed MA inspection fine without having to load the emissions tune last week. Car has the 625 kit with factory xpipe. Right after it passed I went home and put on the catless xpipe.

Maybe MA is one of the states like TX that allows emission passing with up to 2 monitor readiness 'fail' or in 'not ready' state. This might explain why you dont need an emission tune to pass in MA. If that's the case I doubt you even need to swap the x-pipe at all. In VA they only allow 1 readiness monitor in 'not ready' state to pass, so we have to load the emission tune to turn those 2 sensors back on... |
