Thanks, I was expecting something like "Dude your F#CKED!" If they started the video sooner I suspect the driver would have said "Watch this!"

If he treats his car like that, I'm guessing its not his first time doing stuff like this so I'm sure it was bound to happen sooner or later.

This guy probably hits limiter 5 times a day like me with my prayers. Exactly what I said.. not the first time he's done this forsure.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

This shit is inevitable on pretty much any car once used ones can be had around the $20,000 mark.

I have run on dynos. That is for max power, not to avoid a fire.

A well maintained e9x M3 may have been able to do it. Whether this moron maintained this car is not known. And I seriously doubt BMW designed the M3 to be able to specifically do this sort of nonsense.

People are too eager to blame the rod bearings at every slightest opportuity here. Just like how every set of rod bearings that is taken out is just at the cusp of breaking down. I had mine changed, just wish there is more reason applied to this issue than what is seen in this forum.

It didnt really seem like he was bouncing off the limiter, I'd argue this train was coming down the tracks for other reasons. Perhaps it wasnt warmed up? Hadn't had an oil change in a while? These motors can withstand more than this if taken care of IMHO.

If donuts blew up a car I'd have a few motors in my garbage at this rate....

That only happens with years of neglect and lack of maintenance in my opinion.

Update !
Earlier this evening I got mail from a Belgian friend about the video. He said to me , after a few minutes the car caught fire *again* but the fire extinguisher was empty and the whole car was completely destroyed by the flames !

Final destination ?
"Caught fire again" huh? Riiiiighhhht.......

I'm thinking more like..."Oh crap...$20k for a new motor? Let's burn this m*therfucker!" Then proceeds to claim total loss with insurance.

This, who knows if it was warm, or oil condition or anything. We all know the S65 is a sensitive little beast.

Negative . Keep in mind when our S65 is cold , the reduced rpm limiter is on .

ECU tune can change that, I believe.

My BPM-tune reduced my rpm limiter to 4K rpm when cold (custom precaution) Not sure if it can be set higher than stock by a tune . I'm pretty sure the S65 screamed 7-8K rpm's in the video .

That car has definitely been mistreated before this happening. Poor car.

IMO it's mostly german, at first the say a couple times "open the hood", then when they come to the spilled guts you can hear "the rod is out" a few times, and then they say they can smell petrol in the oil.
I would never abuse my car to that point for such a long time (the original video was longer IIRC), but still probably an LS or AMG motor would have withstood it.

I saw a stock 2011 c63 amg blow it guts out all over the track on the drag strip this summer. The guy did not understand, had just under 80,000 kms and maintained it properly. I guess if you get the lucky 1% chance of motor blowing, it's going to blow regardless. If you treat it like that, you're just multiplying your chances. But ya, an LS probably would've handled it... lol
