Which track was that on? Assuming same driver and conditions the straight line difference is pretty good..... taking a 1 second bite out of the 6MT time to 124mph in I guess 3 gear changes (assuming the DCT hits 124mph in 4th?)

"Das ist den Ultimate Klick" or something close to that was the headline which seems to suggest they liked it?

Okay, i read the article...
i m very happy that i ordered the DCT *hrhr* there are no new things, but it proofs the things we already knew. i ll make a quick review of the article ( the number-facts were stated above already): they devided into 3 categories of comparison: acceleration/handling and fuel-ecconomy. acceleration: the bmw M3 is already fast, but with the dkg its faster. the dkg adds 20 additional kg to the car, but you feel non of them. the gear-ratios were improved and the acceleration doesnt stop while shifting => it is, and it feels faster Handling: the dkg shifts lightningfast and it´s very smart. using the D-Mode is very comfortable. The 6MT is also very smooth, but compared to the dkg a bit "old fashion" nearly annoying. Fuel ecconomy: by the better gearratio the ecconomy is increased from 13,8 ( autobild-testresult) to 13,0 ( also autobild-testresult). the higher weight doesnt really count (20kg). conclusion( i ll just translate it): Well Done, BMW! the DKG is a success. Great without "but" and "if". We were dainty searching for cons, but didnt found them. There is no need for getting used to it, it is comfortable, shifts comfortable, and if required by the driver, also very hard( german "hart", means also racy). And it has a better fuel ecconomy. Therefor: more of this in other models! There was also a big box with the history of the dkg, but it´s all but interesting ( just telling us, that bmw gives the things other names than the other carmanufactures like bmw "dkg" and vw "dsg" or bmw dsc and others "esp"...) edit: the headline was Vergleich BMW M3 Handschalter gegen DSG - " BMW mit Doppelkupplungsgetriebe, Das ist der ultimative Klick" translated in english: BMW 6MT vs DCT - " BMW with the DCT, that is the ultimative click" , "Klick ~ kick ~ boost of fun, i guess this word is known in the english language also as "kick" " |

They liked it very much and found not one downside of the DCT. So I don't like 'em anymore. Best regards, south

OMW... a big difference..
I'm in status 112 and maybe a have chance to switch to DCT!!! I like the "romanticism" of the 6MT so much.... but the 80 to 120 difference killed me. It's tempting.. but not enough.... |

They didn't mention LC. I suppose they used it for the performance numbers, though.
Best regards, south

Great news! Thats a big difference in the 200 sprint and in-gear times. Considering the 6MT 200 time is quite crap there's probably room for improvement on the DCT 200 time too. It wouldn't be too bold to expect a 14.9 from the DCT (Audi RS6 Avant, anyone).

You know thinking more about it 4.6 seconds for MDCT? The manual cannot shift as fast as the dual clutch even if done by the most skillful person.
4.2 seconds was the fastest done with a manual that we know of. How come they only got 4.6 with MDCT? Was launch control even used? Are the other factors that affect time that much working against the MDCT M3 in this case? And come to think about it. 0 - 60MPH in 4.8 seconds for the manual is not exactly a great run either. I guess I answered my own question. Nevermind... I think we need more reviews on this.
