Thanks for sharing such detailed part numbers and everything.

I don't have a lot of experience tapping plastic. Do the threads hold up to the return line okay?

Initially I had the same concern but figured the part was only 30 bucks so I can experiment and see if it was strong enough. After running for a second with a couple of threads I quickly found out not only was it but I was able to put quite a bit of pressure on it.no signs of having any issues and is working great

Just in-case anyone else is going to try this, one of the part numbers is wrong. The Hose end should be FBL1513 which is the 8AN size rather than the 6AN size which is referenced in the above post.

Otherwise, great post and I can attest that this is an easy and worthwhile mod.

OP and contributors: Great DIY thread, thanks! I plan on doing this very soon. Can you give an update on how it is holding up?

Holding up nicely with no leaks here. As a note though when I installed the reservoir I did slip a couple worm-gear clamps on the hoses connected to the barb just to be safe.

Hi, this was what I did
"If you don't have crimp clamps get a kit from Amazon \

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...rch_detailpage

It's cheap and looks much better than the crap ones with the barrel screw that tightens the unit m(worm gear). Those break easily and end up being the addition that cuts the crap out of you when your trying to work on your car."

I rubbed a little chf on a spare piece of heater hose to confirm these fears, and sure enough noticeable amounts of the hose deteriorated.

So I ended up buying a heavy duty goodyear power steering hose online but shipping was 3x the price of the item. The new hose is impervious to the chf and bridged the gap between adapter and reservoir perfectly when cut to size. I heated the exterior braid a bit and it shrank to fit the barbs with a plastic-like rigidity. All said and done it turned out pretty nice but I haven't installed it yet!

PS: nice clamps! Makes the old wormgear look like junk

The hose shown in your picture is different from the one the link takes you to. The hose in the link is not braided looking and I don't think it will shrink if heated. Do you think it will still do the job?

I think the hose in his link is the same braided hose - it's just a very low quality picture. Click on the image for an expanded view and I think I see braids.

I looked up that part number and it comes up as "heater hose." You really ought to get some proper power steering hose.

Why have you got an adapter on the input hose? Isn't it the same diameter as the input/hose on the stock M3 reservoir?

Oh yeah, I ended up with hose from a local hardware store, not that SKU in the pic. I heated it to 270*F for 10 minutes and there was no distortion.

They wouldn't fit, well not easily from what I could tell, so I ended up needing two adapters.

Bingo. Just a low-res pic. As for the adaptor on the input, I didnt need one but it was definitely a snug fit getting it on there.

If only one is needed, maybe I'll try fitting the hose once more.

Actually it's not. I ordered the one from the link and it is not braided. It is smooth like a typical hydraulic hose.

Hmm not really sure what to say then. That's where I ordered mine so I'm not sure why you got a different hose

I just called PSC and was told that the two hoses are identical except one has a "pretty outside braid" and the other doesn't.

I did this mod using all the parts the OP posted. Very easy and simple task, but I have a micro leak.

I'm not 100% sure if the leak is coming from the threaded part in the reservoir or at the fittings.

Is it safe to use plumber's tape or something similar to it?

you could, but make sure that you actually got the fitting tight as well. this is all pretty much all low pressure, so you should not have leaks. My is dry as a bone
