That's good news, did you get updated maps too ?

Do you think with this you would still need an audible warning or is it good enough?

Yes, I think the maps are updated.

An audible warning would be a massive improvement - the density of cameras in London is staggering and requires constant vigilance!

I think Davo's advice about knowing the roads, etc is important. On the nice straight highways of the South, paying attention to rises, etc will save you. The radar detector is nice for warning you about the occasional hiding spot that is due to trees, a sign, etc. Then, you can add them to your mental list.

Laser detection, as mentioned above, is worthless, as when it goes off, you are generally toast.

http://www.radardetector.net/ for info from those obsessed with radar and detectors.

This is generally true, but I have a couple times gotten advance warning when the car in front of me was targeted. I will seriously consider a lidar jammer for this car.

Worthless was perhaps too strong a word. I guess my point was if you are serious about avoiding tickets from laser then you need a jammer.

I'm definately interested but at the rate of my home download (can't do it at work) it'll take 5 days for the 3.66Gb dowload!!! Also, I have no access to a DVD burner. Anyone want to sell/send me the DVD???

The actual method, from scratch, of making your own custom sat nav disc is laid out here:

His screen shot of South London (showing all the GATSOs) is terrifying .... what a police state!

Thanks for finding that, Geri - awesome! This will allow anyone to update speed camera data monthly without having to download a torrent of the whole DVD.

And yes, they are turning London into a terrible place to live - you spend the whole time wondering whether you're going to get a ticket in the post tomorrow.

I was having a think about how to get audible alerts using the BMW nav disk update and the only thing I can think of is to buy a Tomtom one, have it hidden in the glovebox using an external antenna, then it will beep and you'll see the camera on the pro nav screen.

This assumes the tomtom one can output enough volume to be heard.

It also might fit in the armrest compartment and you could run the antenna to the rear window shelf.

Anyone any better ideas?
