Thoughts about this ?

Hello Forum,

Just wanted to get you thoughts on this http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...33865244&Log=0

it popped up pretty close to me. It looks cleaner than most I've seen so far, at least in the pics (no visible wear on shift knob etc). It does have an active reacall on it though. Which I am not sure about. Will probably go check out the car this weekend (tomorrow)

Let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Can I ask why he should walk away/

I would pay to have it PPI'd by a BMW dealership. Usually dealers are willing to work out something to get it done. If you are seriously interested.

Pretty good price. Yes get a ppi done on it so you definitely know it's a good investment. You'll enjoy the car, trust me

70K miles = 112,654 km's !
Risk is too high with that amount of miles , because I saw and received too much bearing troubles ...and probably I know too much .
30K miles I would say OK with a clean car history , but buy a S65 that ran that amount with probably 2-3 previous owners... no thank you.
Spent 30-35K on a used car with 70K miles and not being 100% sure you can make it to 80K miles ?
A S65 is not cheap ..don't forget that BMW walks in 90% of the BF's and the car is from 2008 !
But that's only how I see it...and because I prefer reliability .

Also, before purchasing my M, I Was interested in one at a BMW dealership about an hour away from me. The car was listed on their website and was on their lot but they would not sell it to me due to the airbag recall. They stated that they were not able to and that they advertised the car as a way to get people to their dealership. So heads up-they might not be able to sell it to you.

I disagree, if the car was well maintained the OP is willing to spend some money on rod bearings I see no issues with buying a car with miles. We recently tuned a customers car that is turned into a track car. The car he picked up was salvaged with 4 owners and 80,xxx miles when we first started. He had rod bearings done, changed fluids and all the necessary things needed to be done. He beats on the car and has kept up with oil changes and the car is still running strong. I see no issues with picking up a high mileage car as long as you get a PPI inspection and make sure you are going to be able to spend some money if needed.

My local did it for free. Figure they'll get me in the long run

It would be nice if some more can chime in with the Air Bag recall. I see the car got its notice, but it does not show if it was ever done. Also all records are good till about 50-55K miles then all of a sudden no records till 70K when it was sold. Also, happens to be owned by a doctor, or so I am told. Wonder why its always a doctor?! I suppose thats just something dealers like to tell people.

FYI- I am aware of some of the issues the car has eg- rod bearing, throttle actuators. And I am not really scared of high milage cars. I mean my N54 has 128K miles on it, and it looks and drives better than 90 percent of the cars out there. Dare I say it - better than some M3 I've test driven at the local dealerships. BUT its always got something that needs work. The engine is solid, but almost every other component around it has been replaced - eg: the radiator was replaced last month.

Thing is, I am not really afraid to spend a couple K to take care of items, that may happen once 100K, but its the constant niggles/problems with different components that bother me. I just want a fun practical car, that can handle a handful of track days/autocross event each year. The 335 does it, but with the amount I've spent on it, I could park another n54 next to it. Hope you get my drift.

This one looks probably the most well kept of all I have looked at (been looking for a 4 months). But the gap in service history, and air bag recall seem a bit iffy

Put a deposit on my car end of June, was on wait list for airbag, airbag done 7/06. delivered 7/22 (my hold up). Not sure what you are looking for as far as "someone chiming in" on the airbag.

As for service, maybe he went to an indy shop, maybe nothing was done to it. That's a gamble. I BELIEVE that most E9x BMWs, (M3 included) were recommended 15k between oil changes. Not saying I approve, just that he might have gone from 55k-70k and said let the next guy pay for the next service.

the airbag will not get resolved until there is a confirmed replacement. So you will be waiting quite awhile to get a replacement. I would not make that a factor in why you do not buy the car. Like I stated before have a PPI inspection done by a BMW dealership. They will look over pretty much everything and let you know where the car has issues etc.

The price could be that way as they are looking at what they can get at auction. You will never know until you go check it out.

Price is not "too good". I was looking a couple months ago and all of the pre-'11 (and therefore non-zcp) were sub-30k ATM. I ended up paying 10k more for a 11.0" ZCP DCT ZTP ZPP - a car with 19k on the odometer and 2 yrs newer, completely loaded, absolute pristine condition (I know everyone says that)
