Fault code. Solved. MAP sensor/ pressure sensor
I’ve never seen a fault code like this. Charge plausibility, diagnosis, cold-start strategy bank 2.
ISTA prompted me to run a test on MAF(MAP sensors) , and throttle actuators. MAF / intake pipe tested OK. Both actuators appear to have load faults. I did not have battery charging during this process. But shouldn’t really matter. Is this a code telling me TA’s are failing ? Update * It appears my personal master tech “ISTA” has come to a conclusion. Faulty MAP sensor. It’s telling me bank 2. So this is solved. Last edited by bmwpower603; 08-04-2019 at 06:31 PM.. |

Not wanting to put too fine a point on it but it's "solved" when you replace the MAP sensor for bank 2 and the problem goes away.
It always remains a possibility that mice came into your engine compartment and bit through the wires to the sensor. Or the connector failed from a manufacturing defect. Or the plug just fell out because the last "mechanic" to work on the car broke the clip. Or the DME has a peculiar and very unlikely fault. |

There’s only 1 MAP / pressure sensor, and it happens to be on bank 2. And it’s also tucked behind cylinder 8 under the wiring harness.
So I’ll replace it and see if it comes back. |

I had this excat same issue 3 times in the span of 4 different times I drove the car. Was about to order the MAP sensor, then decided to check for leaks.
Part of my Dinan intake elbow's rubber boot to the plenum wasn't 100% perfectly seated, so I re-installed it and drove it all weekend without issue. Maybe it'll return, who knows lol. But I agree, it's a very rare issue on these cars. Only a couple other members have had similar codes with MAP sensor faults.

I haven’t even gotten a check engine light. But noticed the fault when doing a full system scan. |

I haven’t gotten a check engine light, or limp mode. Which tells me that maybe my pre cat/ regulating o2 sensors are at fault here. Since those fail without tripping a fault on these vehicles.
Have you run a TA test? I did. And both banks had faults. My throttle actuators were done 60k miles ago at the dealer. Here’s the TA test results. upload images |

Both TAs were fine, but my ICV had the same integral duty factor ramp 2 as not OK, which is apparently extremely common to see on ISTA.

I’ve taken the throttle valves off for cleaning, replacing all intake manifold gaskets, timing cover gaskets, valve cover gaskets/ valve cover (oil separators), front and rear coolant pipe gaskets, and a few other parts. I put everything back together. And started the car. It ran pretty rough. And felt a vibration in the cabin. I knew something was up. . So I put ISTA on it, and I now have 2 codes. O2 sensors on each bank. I then reset adaptations on o2 , catylac converters, throttle valves, , and I also ran an adaption test on the filler pipe /intake. Cleared the codes again. And started the vehicle. The car runs great now. And the throttle response has gotten 25% better with the throttle valve cleaning. I also want to note. No more cold starts code. And when the car is idling, it sounds better. (It used to go into a different sounding ignition cruise) Now that seems to be cleared up. When putting the coil packs back in. I noticed they actually engage further then I previously thought. (When I replaced the spark plugs 1k ago, I might not have installed the coil packs properly) You need to push them in pretty hard, until you hear a click. I did not do this before. Maybe the cause of my issue. But who knows. photo hosting sites |
