P zero for cold weather?

I'm looking for a replacement tire of my PSS since they started to understeer from loss of grip going into a corner. Low ambient temperature (5C) surely doesn't help.

Since it is time for me to change my tires anyway, what do you guys think of going XL 255/35&265/35 19 for street tires? They seem to be softer compound than PS4S.

I have winter tires already so I'm not asking about those.

Since you aren't getting any responses, I'll bite.

So NO summer tire is good in the winter months. PSS, P Zero, none of them. In extreme cold, they can become hard ice skates.

You mention you have winter tires, so why do you need a summer set in winter?

There is no grip to find with a summer tire in sub-40 weather.

It rarely snows where I live so I don't want to "use" the soft rubber of winter tires too much; that will reduce grip in the instance it snows.

With Michelins I noticed that it is easy get sidewall cracks if driven in low temp for a period of time so I was wondering if P Zero fares any better.

In general there’s always a greater risk of cracking and hardening if summer tires in cold. You may want to try a UHP A/S like a pilot a/s or PZero a/s. However you will compromise ultimate grip in the warm
Months.

If you plan to keep summers on, keep the inflation high and avoid extended parking outside in extreme cold. This can help prevent cracking.

Unfortunately you won’t have a best single solution that will cover all conditions except snow.

Agree with Grip, Summers get stiff and lose grip with temperature, regardless of ice/snow. Start to happen soon as it comes below 6-8C.

Might try DWS06. They seem to do pretty well on snowy roads and are Y-rated tires.

Talking from experience with P Zero, they are quite awful in the cold weather. Even in the Summer they take longer to warm up than the Pilot
sports.

+1, I haven’t liked any Pirellis I’ve tried. Noisy and about as grippy as some tires half the price.

Driving summer sports tires in cold weather, besides all other negatives, is dangerous. I live in a place where, practically, there is no winter, but in the a bit colder days the PSS' were horrible. Yes, you can be extra careful but what happens if you're in an emergency braking situation. Now I have AS3+'s and they are are pretty good compromise. I only drove once the Pilot Super Sports at a couple degrees below freezing, on dry roads, and it almost felt like driving on ice.

On the other hand , it's pretty fun - the car was power sliding all the way through 1st, 2nd and beginning of 3rd gears.

Maybe the OP needs 3 sets of wheels. I have thought about that before. My not snow, not summer set would probably be performance all seasons like AS3. But I am already storing 3 sets of wheels (snows and summers for each of 3 cars).

I'll pass on the best advice that I ever received regarding these cars, "If you're going to drive a 400+ bhp car on summer tires in cold weather, the only other thing you need to spend money on is a burial plot."
