I have just completed a replacement to the '09 BMW clutch/flywheel combo. In Canada it was about $1200 clutch kit and $2400 flywheel, installed about $5k at the dealer. Tuner was about the same.

Clutch is around $600 and flywheel is about $1400. With labor you should add another 6-800 due to the damn tight space to reach the top bolts of the trans. I had mine done right when I picked up the car. we lost a day due the local BMW dealer casually forgetting to mention we needed a flywheel. PM me if you have any questions.

JUST FYI, most aftermarket kits are based around 09 flywheel.

That's more accurate pricing. Getbmwparts.com lists the flywheel at $1393 and plate at $677. I looked up the 09 since the 08 setup was discontinued. I'd assume 5-8 hours of labor too.

Does anyone know why the 2008 year model requires a new flywheel with a clutch replacement?

I have the same question. Anything wrong with the Spec clutch with the steel fly wheel that is being sold on turner motor sports website?

I got the spec P-TRIM I believe it is? It's the second stage they got. Clutch is bad ass lol. Feels like a real race car now! Hated it at first but now love it.

I just got my engine rebuilt and found broken pressure plates on stock clutch so I upgraded to the Spec P trim as well. I'm struggling with it a bit especially on first gear and reverse. I'm hoping it gets better. Did you have that issue at first? Overall though it's a blast to drive so far.

I have the ss trim. It is the entry level full faced clutch. 1st gear is annoying. I always have a little shutter/vibration on engagement. I have about 3k miles on it so far. Also, at high RPM the shift gets more difficult because I don't believe the pressure plate is fully disengaging (Car has 120k). I'm going to replace the master and slave cylinders to see if that helps.

Interesting I would figure after that many miles that the clutch would breakin and you wouldn't have the first gear issues. I stalled my car this morning as I am trying to find the right RPMs to engage the clutch... apparently more RPMs the better but I am trying to baby it during breakin. I only have like 75 miles on it. I'll keep the thread updated as I go thru this breakin. I might call Spec and see if they have any input.

About half the time, I also get little traction-control/vibration type of feedback when taking off from standing start at lights, stop signs but don't have any issue in any other gears. Could it be clutch ?

does the traction control light come on the dash when that happens? I am getting the same thing with the light from initial launch... my guess is because the stage 2 clutch is designed to grip it and rip it.. no slow starts with this setup I guess?

Yes sir!! I had the exact same problem. First gear was scary and reverse was hell!! But after breaking the clutch in it will get wayyyyyy better. You'll love it!

TC doesn't light up. Not sure what it is. Feels like traction control/vibration during take off after stopping.

Would you mind telling us how you approached to convince stealer and BMW NA to pay 1/3 of cost each?

Holy thread bump. For starters I don't refer to dealerships in the way you do, it's childish and disrespectful. So no, I don't care to share how this was done back in the day.

ECS has 09+ LUK brand clutch and flywheels at a much more resonable price. 400 clutch and 700 FW.

How much was the new trans?

I have been searching searching for clutches and parts geek has 3.

https://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/20...lutch_kit.html

Which one is correct? They also have 3 fly wheels as well.

Holy bump
Mine is build date 12/2007 Euro specs
A friendly advise - don't waste your time and money with LUK aftermarket kit
I had to pay labor for 2 installations and at the end I am stuck back with the old setup
It just didn't work
I guess it was a problem with the rpm mark on the flywheel. The computer could not read it right to align the timing. Bunch of errors on the dash related to vanos and engine working and sounding like a diesel locomotive with no power at all
I will visit the local stealership to see what they would offer
