2011 E90 M3 Blackstone report at 73k

So ive had my m3 for 5 months now and put 3500 miles on the oil and wanted to get an idea of wear even though its a 2011 with the oem tin/aluminum rod bearings.

If im reading this correctly I noticed the 10w-60s viscosity is climbing towards the lower end of the ideal range which suggests that 5k oil intervals might be right..

It sure does seem like that oil degraded a lot over just 5 months and 3500 miles.

I just posted mine 4 minutes after you. Similar readings - slightly higher oil readings.

Next time you get it, pay for the extras to see how much additives your oil has left.

I've done 2 RB changes and I've always been a 5k oil changer and my shells looked great the last change. I really think our oil goes to shit fast and I would never go the current 10,000 or old 15,000 Change interval.

It’s not news that TWS shears pretty quickly to a 50 weight. But if some people are going to lower weight oils in order to protect their bearings, why would a longer OCI have a downside on bearing wear? I’m in no way suggesting >5K OCIs, I just don’t see how longer OCIs will wear bearings.

That's a great point, particularly since people are putting in Xw40 in their cars to "protect" their rod bearings. The reality here is that there is a general lack of meaning between what someone sees in these oil tests and any real world application. I've never heard of an engine fail exclusively because of an issue with the oil itself (other than having too little oil or never changing the oil).
