f10 Infotainment Knob sticking

after 8 years, finally have the Infotainment Knob sticking when I push it to the right. doesn't come back unless I pull it to the left again. Anyone found a fix for this, or am I looking at pulling the entire thing out and deep cleaning?

From what I recall the knob pulls off rather easily. Google the DIY but I’d start there to see if there’s any crud stuck inside
