Single owner and service history - what's it worth?

If you had two identical cars, same mileage, features etc. but one had a single owner and all service history and the other was say, 3 owners and being sold from a used car dealer (bought at auction), how much more would you be willing to pay if the vehicle's price was $30k?

$500? $1,000? $0 and have a PPI tell the story?

Service records are important, but the work they document is more important. There is a big difference between having a couple of oil change receipts or $5,000 worth of receipts for body work along with pictures before and after an minor accident. A well maintained car with a new battery, new brake pads and rotors, new throttle actuators, new tires, new rod bearings, and a full detail with paint correction and a coating in the last 6 months and the documentation to prove it and would be worth more to me - especially if warranties for those parts exist and transfer to the next owner.

Good service records from several owners, like I got with my E39 M5, are worth way more to me than simply having one owner. Frankly I never understood why one owner is so desirable to many people.
