Murphy's Law
So my 4 year warranty ran out yesterday (6/15). I took an out of town trip about 175 miles this weekend. Sure enough, I wake up this morning and the car won't start. Not a battery issue as I tried to jump it and it didn't appear to be low anyhow. Basically I can hear the fuel injector kick on but it never "cranks". I disconnected the battery to reset everything but that didn't work either. I was looking at about a $700 tow because of no more BMW roadside coverage and I don't have good towing on my insurance. Anyhow just like Michael J Fox in Back to The Future I tried one last time and it fired up. I must have tried 50 times with pressing the button, holding the button, etc. I couldn't believe it started. I have a check engine light on but it runs/acts normal. I drove straight home to the dealer and didn't even turn the car off when I stopped for gas. It was a good thing also because I tried to start it after I pulled in the dealer and sure enough it wouldn't crank.
I'll see what the dealer says Monday. I'm hoping there is some sort of grace period. I know the dealer system keeps track of days the car is out of service in the shop so maybe (hopefully) this will help cover me, if not I have an extended platinum warranty with only a $250 deductible so I'm not too worried. I'm just so thankful the car started. It literally saved me $700+. P.S. I'm driving a new 528i loaner. Nice ride but feels like a boat compared to the M3 obviously. I HATE the way the engine turns off when you stop at a light. I know it saves money but it's just an awful experience.

I'd hazard a guess and say that BMW will do a goodwill repair considering how close you are to the warranty expiring. As for the tow, you should have lifetime tow coverage through BMW since //M cars don't have a spare/run flat. GL with your situation, and keep us posted on the part that went out.

BMW does grace period/good will repairs, if your dealer doesn't offer to do it they are being lazy. It's one of the many advantages of owning a car of this caliber.

I heard this also. Even if I "made a flat", I doubt they would tow me 150+ miles to my preferred dealer but instead probably would take me to the closest dealer which was about 30 miles away.

Been out of warranty for 9 months. Two year warranty here. My dealer input a goodwill request in an online system and was denied. He sent an e-mail to Munich and was approved in a couple hours. I was refunded everything but the 95 Euro part cost. Saved ~400 Euro.
