Pretty scary stuff.

in regards to stealing the car, doesn't the car shutdown if you try to drive the car and the key is no longer in range?

They don't have to drive it away.

Scary. There's probably a bunch of punks googling "$17 power amplifier" now as well.

If you have comfort access and the car is started, it will remain on and drivable when the key is not present. Once the car is shut off, it won't start. The car will tell you the key is out of range but that is it.

Wow, thats crazy. I guess I always assumed the car would shutdown if the key was out of range.

I suppose that could also be a liability if the car shutdown though..

If you have the DCT, it won't allow you to put it in drive, until the key is present

They just want into the car to steal shit.

They can't drive it away. I got nothing in my car, unless they want to spend the next hour to unscrew my idrive

I think this finally answers the "6MT or DCT" debate.

Keep your car, drive DCT.

Oh.. If you lock your keys in the car, you can call your spouse who has the spare remote. She holds the spare remote to the cell phone and presses unlock. Presto! The unlock is transmitted through the phone! And don't forget that you must be using speakerphone or it won't work!

Same thing here untill....
I saw it this week on the Dutch television a demo how the 5H1T works ...
Works with a distance of 100 meters...and the car was gone within 30 seconds , after this and back in the studio (big discussion) they said that the car industry needs to find a solution for this problem and quickly...
Because everyone can just order the 5H1T from the Internet , and so it's a Worldwide problem !

Advice...And how to avoid the 5H1T ?
Actually we can do nothing for the moment ...
But I'm doing this...

I don't park my car where I don't see it , and when this is not possible I take the Mini from my wife !

Man, this is scary stuff!

I just went and tested this on my car. Taking the remote's battery out should work the same as putting the key in the freezer. Comfort access did not work when my remote didn't have the battery in it.

Again, get a hidden GPS locator and don't leave anything expensive in your car.
