Everyone should make educated decisions on if they want to change them or not. I am going to change mine at 60k just because if I change them I know I will never have to mess with it. It is a easy job and can be done in my shop in a afternoon.

Interesting thread, I have 66K miles on my car and my first oil analysis (posted somewhere in here) shows 11 ppm on lead. Not really something to be concerned about, but seeing how you guys are planing to do this, I am curious as to what the bearings look like when you eventually pull them out.

As for pricing on this job, shop rates vary from state to state, however one can expect to pay 9.6-10 hours of labor. So the labor can vary between $850-$1200 depending on each shop. Steven, I really don't feel this is a necessary upgrade or repair required. Continue to change your oil every 5000 miles if you want to be on the safe side. Continue using 10W-60, our vehicles are wet sump. There have been plenty of threads started lately instilling a ton of unnecessary fear into a lot of S65 M3 owners as of late. VCM said it best comparing it to human heart failure. Sure it can happen, but its not as common. As a matter of fact, this rod bearing failure is not nearly as common as heart failure.

The sub-frame/differential bushings however, definitely a good idea.

Kinda makes me wish I lived out in california. I would definately get this done and with the peace of mind that the possibilty of this issue will being no more Id probably throw in a blower while I was at it.
