I would say it is geared towards a car enthusiast that enjoys a good dd that has driven a few cars in their day and is ready for comfort/luxury/style/engine tone/power all wrapped up in a nice little tight package that wont depreciate entirely in 3-5yrs.

I for one love DDs.

I feel the m3 is a car for someone who wants a race car without being flashy. The m3 compared to its competition is a very clean classy car. I bought mine to take to the track and drive around on the weekends. Aside from heckling about being young (26) and driving an m3 I get shit for having a 6mt 525i for a DD and dct on my m3. I always have a bias for 6mt cars but I love rh dct!

The M3 is a luxury sports car that is perfectly balanced for both the track and daily driving.

The GT-R is a more hardcore sports car that is very "Japanese" in its orientation toward tech and priced as high as more refined competitors.

I'd much rather supercharge an M3 than buy a GT-R.

The M3 is an all around car and one of the best designed by the ///M Division. I've driven Bimmers since 1987 and find the "M" the best. I purchased the car for handling and safety i.e. the power is there if you need it (power = quick speed for me). My e46 once saved my life ... it's another story.

I am way past legal retirement age (still feel young at heart ) thus I drive a ///M3

I ran it on the track once and the brakes faded badly and the car threw a bunch of fault codes and went into "limp" mode. I sold it after 6 months and 4K miles and bought another E46 M3. Now in my 60's, I'm back with the "Boy Racer" E92 M3. Life is too short to drive an M5/M6. If you must drive an M5/M6, save the money and just buy a Buick. For me, and with help from Viagra, I'm still too young to go into "limp" mode yet. I'll stick with M3's.
I couldn't agree more! That's very nice put!

I would add that between an M3 and a 911 is not a matter of budget but of practical needs. Both cars are fantastic and all any real person in the real world will ever need.

Cheers,

Btw, I made no confusion between GTR and 911. Only that for me it is the 911 and the M3 that counts in the real world. GTR and other italians? Nope..
Perhaps the baby Aston too- but it's like a less accomplished, wonderfully feathered M3... with a much more elegant interior - and with two seats less!

I bought the M3 because I wanted a car with a history, that was respected, that could give me enough power to have some fun and take it to the track; all while still being civil enough to chauffeur my 7 year old daughter around. I wanted all this without having to give up a luxurious sense of feel and all my favorite technology. It was not my intent to buy the fastest car in the world but it was my intent to buy one of the best drivers cars in the world.

I do not consider the M3 a "boy racer" kind of car. That term makes me think of spiky haired kids in modded Evos and STIs. I would like to think that M3 drivers are usually more successful and have a little more refined taste then just going after HP numbers.
I would say you summed it up EXACTLY for me as well.

I see lots of persians driving white M3s. So think the M3 is tailored towards Persians.

No I meant interventional cards. Caths took a 30% cut in 2010. Now they are all bitching about it. It's basically become a contest to see who can do the most caths in a day.

ummm.. since when is a 70+k performance car a "boy-racer" car??? i would think a modded 335 or maybe even a tricked out g37 says "boy-racer." The M3 is a serious car. Doesn't matter if you parents buy it for you, or you bought it for yourself. But back to the original question, it is a car that appeals to all ages and budgets. To those who have 5 cars and want to diversify with something for the track, and to those who can only pull the trigger on 1 car, and want to make it an all-in-one car with luxury performance and styling..

why bother with stereotypes and what others think?

u like the car, u like the drive, u buy it and drive it. Simple.

Too much typecasting nowadays. might as well sit home and play car games.

Im as likely to buy a GTR or a 911 Turbo or an M3 just as long as i like it.

Someone who likes cars, but can't really be bothered with the problems that come with some of the more "focused" ones.

Autobiographically, someone who wants a Porsche but needs a back seat. (I'm ignoring the Panamera and Cayenne on purpose.)
