S3R written off 😢

Winter and the M3 haven’t gotten along well.

On my way to get rid bearings done on my Dinan S3R, slid off the road into a pole. Car is a write off.

I’m considering buying from insurance to part it out.

If there’s interest, let me know.

Along with all Dinan parts, there is a completely new custom interior.

Damn that sucks, sorry for your loss. On the brighter side of things, at least it happened before paying up for new rod bearings.

How is it possible it slid off the road? Did you have traction control off? Or were you on the winters?

I saw the thread title and my heart sunk a little. I saw you were the OP, and it hit the bottom.

You had a special one, the one car that I would have flipped mine for. That said, I thought the Dinan engine builds included rod bearings. Please post photos for posterity.

Glad nobody was hurt. What's next for you?

Just the way it is,
I was, ironically, out to Belleville for rod bearing and other service.

If you truly have (had) an S3R your rob bearings were already taken care of by Dinan with the stroker build. Your story sounds suspicious.

Nothing suspicious about it. I can vouch for the fact that OP indeed owns a genuine E90 S3R.

I wanna know why OP was having RBs done if this is truly the case. Did he not know?

I want to know this too.

I think it's been said that stroking the M3 motor to a larger displacement is a permanent solution to the rod bearing issue.

Cause Dinan are good engine builders who would have measured EVERYTHING and put in the proper clearance bearings...

When you build a stroker, you control all the variables.

"Dinan adjusts clearances on all of its strokers to 0.0019" on the mains and 0.0025" on the rods"... I got that from one of the rod bearing threads.

It's been discussed on the other rod bearing threads, but due to cost of having a stroker motor it hasn't been a popular option.

Rod bearings is just a stop gap solution.

I've had my bearings done, but once I have the money saved up I plan to send my car for a dinan stroker build...

https://carbahnautoworks.com/product...ed-engine-kit/

Here's what goes into it... one of those is a new crankshaft and new rod bearings... with opened up clearances

Cause he did a UOA and there was a lot of metal wear in the engine.

Couldn’t care less what you think!

Bearings are only ~500 on a $25,000 engine, with core and with throttle bodies.
.
The oil pan drain plug was stripped, so I was going to fix it PROPERLY, and the bearings at the same time, piece of mind.

why do people like this lurk around the forums? Not buying, just rambling...

Not exactly true.

As I posted, i decided to change them as piece of mind and to inspect.
They’re $500 in a $25,000 US engine plus engine core.

Please don’t speculate. Gordon, you know what my last Dinan E36 was like, no money was spared , and I’m not cheap nor dishonest.

Any questions about authenticity can be brought up with Budds BMW, who received the car originally.
