You know what I say? "Bayerische Motoren Werke AG ... EXCELLENT WORK, I LOVE MY 09 M3 COUPE!"

I know this is a soon-to-be-retired post, but I have good reason for this post. Early this morning, I took my 09 M3 Coupe in for its first real servicing at approximately 14000 miles. Its going in for an oil change, check of the rear differential fluid, and, what has now become (in)famous, a DCT software update.

The BMW dealer gave me a loaner, an 09 335i convertible 6-AT. I'm just gonna say it, I'll take my 09 M3 with DCT-lag over any car, any day, forever. Even with the lag, I have gotten so used to the power of my M3, its lightning quick shifts, speed-sensitive steering, exhaust note, hood bulge, and other jet-like features that driving the 335i was like driving Fred Flintstone's car.

So far all you complainers about DCT-lag, you want a cure? Go drive any other car, then ask yourself if a little DCT-lag is THAT difficult to live with. I've gotten used to it. And now after having driven this 335i, the DCT-lag matters so little that I would say my M3 is a near-perfect car.

I will say, I'm hopeful that my DCT-lag issue goes away with this latest software update. However, if after a few weeks, DCT-lag rears its ugly head again, I don't care. Women have all sorts of issues and we still keep them around. If my M3's only issue is DCT-lag, then I'll keep my M3 around too.

This is how I feel everytime I get out of M3 coupe everyday ...
How long do we have to read posts by clueless dolts that don't possess the ability to comprehend simple written words? Glad you like your car. Have fun with your "hood bulge, and other jet-like features".

i'm thinking of buying a used 2009 M3.... i did some checking and found the last owner was borught out of the lease by the dealership due to drivability issues.. the car has DCT transmission.. so i wonder if this is what the last owner was complaining about?

Test drive it yourself, then make a judgement, there are plenty around to choose from, test drive some first.

There is an SIB (SIB 28 01 10) that mandates that all M3 DCT cars build before Sept 2010 or if they have a software version prior to 2.39.0, have to get the latest software update. All you have to do is take the car to the BMW dealer and tell them you want SIB 28 01 10 done and they will update the software without any hassles.

I just got my 2011 e90 m3 (April 2010 build) updated by the dealer today. The DCT shifts seem smoother, though rev matching sounds a little more muted.

MDCT not smooth

Hi,
I am not sure if I am the only one experiencing this but I find at very low revs (1500rpm) and going down an incline, the shifts are very jerky in 3rd or 4th gear. I also noticed when the throttle is floored upon take off, it occasionally has several violent jerks. Once I had a transmission failure light come on when it was in reverse and I heard a clunk. After that episode, the failure light disappeared and didn't see it again. Booked the car into the dealership and they apparently did a factory reset. Said it was all fixed but I have noticed it still does jerk when revs are low. The service rep said it was normal as the DCT's don't like low revs.
Is this a characteristic of the DCT or should I press for more answers from the dealer?
Hope someone has an insight to this issue. Thanks in advance
BTW mine is an E90 late 2009 model.

Guys,

I just ordered one with DCT today. Did I make a mistake? do you think this issue has been resolved on MY '11 or still persists? Otherwise, I don't mind saving $3,900 buck and getting a 6'er. Please let me know what you think?

Mine is a Febuary 2011 Build and I have not noticed any hesitation issues and so far I am quite impressed with the M-DCT!

Mine was a 2008 DCT with terrible lag issues. Had the software updated about 9 months ago, and the DCT seemed fine after that. Still a little clunky, but, all things considered it is a brilliant transmission and a brilliant car. Still had to get rid of it though .....

OMG, stop! Drive it like it was meant to driven. Lugging it around a corner to see if it doesn't meet your expectations and posting your opinions is getting old. Drive with the shifter, quit babying it or buy a freaking MT, for God's sake. Own a 2009, never noticed a problem, but I drive the car...not let the car drive me. Not a racer but a driver.

Nice dude....

Many of us had some serious lag issues. The problem was not driving it like a grandma, it was regular around town driving. The lag was so bad, the throttle would be non-responsive for up to 2 seconds. Imagine pulling out in traffic and having the car not respond....and even stall sometimes. NOT cool.

So, please, save your lame ass comments for something you actually know something about.

I am glad you did not experience any lag with yours.....it was a total PITA and almost lemoned my car (4th attempt to fix it worked).

Tim

I also have had no problems with my feb 2011 build - am really impressed with the dct overall. Never thought I would get a non-mt and now glad I did
