Get your priorities in order. Focus on finishing school. Work your a$$ off and one day you'll not only own one, but you'll appreciate it that much more. Good luck.

This.

I remember I was 22 and just out of college and was wondering when I would be able to afford an M3. Dedicate yourself to working hard, keep a good head on your shoulders and make smart decisions, and you'll have one in no time. X2 on the appreciation of getting it by earning it.

I got my first M3 (used one at that) when I was 55, so I say you have something to look forward to and a few years to go ,,, good luck I know you will somehow make it earlier then I did

Do well in school and start a successful business along the lines of shangri la hotel or Singapore airlines! Jk

Singtown is expensive! Come over to California. M3 is not so rare here. Easier said than done though.

A few days back, some dude just totaled an E9x M3 in Singapore. The car looked really mangled. I hope the driver is okay.

Driver apparently fled the scene on foot so I'm pretty sure he was ok

Still expensive. I'm not from Singapore but did work there for 5.5 months and became fascinated by the topic... I amused myself and eased my frustration at not being able to drive the 335i I had at the time just spent 4 grand with some suspension and quaife upgrades by calculating how much it would have cost me to buy new.
Great place to work, great food, best atmosphere - but if you have any vices forget about it.

Breakdown :

Registration fee
Upto SG$20k 100% of wholesale price.
Upto SG$50k 140% of price
Above SG$50k 180% of price

Taxes
And then you add 20% government tax and then +7.5% of the final number ( tax on the car and tax all taxes included ).

The above also means nearly new second hand car prices kept high as you're buying the "
taxed car" not just the car.
Plus dealers mark up depending on desirability.

Certificate of motoring
But before you can even buy a car you competitively bid for certificate which allows car to drive on the road. That includes taxi drivers who HAVE to get one as its how they want to earn a living, and companies giving cars as perks. The volume of licences is controlled... Not sure its "one out, one in" but I doubt its far off that. That'll be another 50 grand then for a decent classif the economy is doing well

In ten years, after effectively being taxed at 3 to 5 grand a year for ten years it expires and you can buy another based on the average auctions price of the pervious 3 month. Or let it lapse to allow a new driver to bid for their turn.

Annual Road find licence
There's also a normal road fund licence which for an M3 will be about four grand a year and increasing slightly each year once car reaches its tenth birthday. +10%, 20%, 30% etc each year the car gets older to help you get out of that old banger. Eventually when car is 15 years old and probably considered a classic annual rate now fixed ar 150% more road tax than when it was new.

Basically if OP is looking at a car at all then I doubt money is the question.

OP: what is your question. Is it financial or are you asking about how to get a good one ?

Best regards
Chris
