How did you decide on the color of your M?
I’m curious how people decide on a color. It’s obviously very subjective and I know that sometimes it’s a result of a compromise to get most of the other features you want on the car. And yes, I know it’s been discussed many times but I’m too lazy to search and this way all you addicts have an opportunity to write something again. LOL.
When I bought my first E90 six years ago, it had to be 6MT, ZCP and either Interlagos Blue or Space Grey. Took me a year but I ended up with IB and loved it. I have also always liked Silverstone, so after I sold the IB (big mistake) the next E90 I bought was SSII, which looks great when clean and detailed. That said, I was driving around a couple of weeks ago and saw a Space Grey E92 with some nice carbon fiber accents, which looked awesome. Anyway, just curious how you guys ended up with the color of your M. |

I think I'm been influenced by the launch materials. My M Coupe was Interlagos blue (launch color), and my M3 is Alpine white. I'm not a fan of grey/silver cars and between being in a hot climate with lots of dust and pollen I didn't want a black car. Don't see detailing issues as much on a white car versus a black one. White also highlights the carbon roof more. Still have copies of the M3 brochures.

My notable BMW's that I've owned were an 07 space grey 335i (6spd), 00 carbon black m5 (6 spd), 15 mineral white m4 (dct), and an 18 black sapphire m3 (6spd). I drove my F80 m3 in its natural habitat, Germany, for almost a year and a half. When I moved back to states I found myself realizing how much city life sucked with a manual. So I started looking at E39s again then realized the E92 was the more updated V8. So once I focused on E92s I asked myself what colors do I drool over on the forum, and which of those is different from the previous M's I've owned. It was blue.. I settled on IB vs MCB out of availability. I found mine completely stock with lower mileage (74k), 2 owner w/ clean Carfax & body, dct (which was a must for me. I know that's weird), comp package, carbon roof, and MY 2013. It was just the right time so I bought it 2 days after I found it. I noticed that the E92 is getting into that special market (E34, E39 and E46 etc) were nice examples sell immediately. So if you find what you like be ready to pull the trigger. It was my first time seeing IB in person and it didn't disappoint.

First car I learned stick - jet black z4
First car - jet black e92 335i, wanted to keep it forever but got in an accident. Learned how to work on cars (water pump, hpfp, etc.), gained a new love for cars/engines (n54), and learned how to detail I had to get a jet black e92 m3. |

I simply loved LeMans Blue on BMW's especially with the ZCP. I own a Jet Black 335 and it's a bear to keep clean. When I found a LMB ZCP in my price range I jumped on it! No complaints.

Bought my car in space grey, I didn't have alot of options as i bought it totaled and fixed it. Liked the space grey over fox red but never truly loved the color. Decided it was time to changed and painted it lime rock grey metallic after seeing an f80 m3 cs. I loved the color but i also felt if flowed with the black trim, carbon fiber addons and black wheels with gold ceramic calipers. I felt it was the perfect color so striped the car and painted it to what i wanted as the car really doesn't have much value being a salvage title.

I prefer bright colors.. I had originally requested they find me a new melbourne red at the dealership.
The very next day I saw both alpine white and melbourne red m3's parked right near each other on the street on my walk to work. I immediately called dealership switch my order to alpine white.. I think it was fate because e9x M3's were still relatively new and rare in Dec 2008. To have both cars parked like that was a strange coincidence.. Melbourne red seems to photograph much lighter than in real life which seems more crimson. My second e92 m3 in 2013, I was in for some warranty service and completely fell in love with a new orange coupe they had on the showroom floor. It had all the options I wished I had in the white car like cloth seats, carbon roof and 6mt.. At the time I had no clue what a Lime Rock M3 was and they offered it to me for $1K over invoice. Two hours later after more negotiation I walked out with another e92 LMAO. |

Alpine White is a heritage/historical color for BMW so it was very high on my list. It wasn't the sole factor, however.

Having had a alpine white 335 then mineral white e93 m3 right after, white wasn’t too high on my list. However, after eliminating every car available I was left with AW again but I didn’t mind because it was the launch color and looked great. I would have loved IB or LRP though.

Jet black chose me because it only had 2k miles when I bought it. I really wanted Space Grey with fox red leather interior. There was one for sale in NJ at the time I was in the market and due to timing I couldn't get it; however, a Jet Black e90 ZCP 6MT came up for sale and I couldn't pass on it, especially for the price at the time. 6+ years later, no regrets.

For three years I studied every page of the M3 brochure. All of the e92 coupe pictures were of an Alpine White car. It grew on me over the years. When e92 M3 production was ending I had to get mine ordered.....an Alpine White stripper. No regrets, but I do wish the dealership had presented the possibility of individual colors.

Honestly, I am not loyal to a particular color, rather I look to see which color highlights the lines and shape of the car best. I feel that for the E92 M3 some of the great "line highlighters" are (in no particular order): Alpine white, Silverstone, Space Grey, Monte Carlo blue. Then you pick your climate: for example, Silverstone looks gorgeous in wet, overcast weather, but looks plain 'ol silver in bright sun....whereas Space Grey looks
dead in cloudy weather, but magnificent in bright sun. Some facts here, lol...mostly opinion... GM |

I was open to gray, white, blue ... I didn't want to maintain black, and I don't want to own a loud color (though I like looking at them). I almost bought a LMB car but it sold out from under me. Then this one came up and checked all the right boxes, very happy with AW.
