Vinyl Wrap Wheels?
Has anyone vinyl wrapped their wheels? Or know anything about doing it?
Doesn't seem like a bad idea, especially since if anything goes wrong you can just peel it off and get back to square one... Perhaps a DIY? My car is leased so looking for reversible mods. Thanks in advance |

why would you do that.
I dont think its a good idea. nor ive seen anyone do this. i would say do something else like wrapping the trim with CF or something. .... better get your flame suit on.

ive seen a vinyl wrap on M6 rims before. they looked good, but when i saw the car again about 2 months later it looked like it was starting to peel off. the guy only did it on the the spokes not the whole rim.
On the flip side i would agree with Persian. |

What would be the point of this mod? to make the wheels easier to clean or to give them a different appearance? Or both?

You could also paint the wheels. I have seen this on the stock 19's and it looks good when done right. Vinyl would protect against scratches and chips I suppose.

To change the appearance of the wheels....and I'm avoiding painting them because I'm going to turn the car back in a couple years.
Obviously painting is a better option but wrapping is reversible, cheap, and if it does look terrible you can peel it off.. Well see, I'll probably end up buying new wheels and selling them in a couple years. |

Go for it dude! What the hell. If it looks like shit, you can always peel it back off.
However, if it looks like shit when you install it, please immediately remove it! Post up some pics if you do it....

Go for it. Could be a great idea if it looks right and stays on for a reasonable amount of time.

I vinyl'd the stainless steel rim protector that comes on my BBS, one of the wheel is already starting to peel from day to day road debris. I can't imagine they would hold up too well on more surface area.

I think heat will be an issue which will ruin an long-term durability.
Might be a good idea to see how something would look and to base a decision on whether or not to paint/powdercoat.

A friend of mine did this to the lip of his iForged wheels a few years back. Black face with black vinyl wrapped lips. I didn't think I would like it but it actually looked pretty good. And it lasted for a long time. Don't think it peeled until he decided to take it off.

Thought about this as well to change up my boring Sport Edition winter rims after seeing this link, however, I'm not sure how well you could patch the inside rim face behind the spoke when you cut and fold down the vinyl around them.
I'm not sure if I'll find the time to try this until the fall but I say go for it! It's a great way to shake things up and still be reversible to stock. EDIT: Here's another option, plasti-dip. Looks like this is completely reversible as well.

I wouldnt try too much vinyl as it could peel with the heat. Also vinyl shrinks with heat so you could run into problems there. Another solution to you if you're on the cheap and want something removable is Plastidip. Its a rubberized spray paint which you spray on, but then could be peeled off like a sticker. Its quite durable, and is pretty popular in the VW world. I did it to my hummer and to an a5, and its lasted well for both.
