I hadn't seen that one, thanx. I'm probably gonna just go do88 for my cooling. I'm gonna do each of the 3 pieces as I change fluids. I wanna start with radiator, then DCT Cooler and last power steering cooler.

I ran Thunderhill back in July 107F outside temp, my needle got to about 1/4" of the 300, which tripped the orange thermometer. I backed off for the rest of the session, and car stayed at 3/4 mark for duration.

I cant wait to track the car with this oil. It was actually shocking how much better my car responds to the 300v. Worth the extra cash imo

Ambient temps in central florida stays in a 95-100*F range for all of the above observations
What made you go with the 15W-50?

I had a 2 hour conversation with Motuls lead engineer, and after discussing their testing I felt confident in his recommendation. Cold flow outperforms their 8100 series 10w60 and viscosity retention at 300*F is superior as well. It doesnt sheer down with temperature or load and provides greater protection for track days and hpde events, which is the primary purpose of the car. I have a daily so the m3 is a weekend track toy now! Only negative is the more frequent change interval, but since it's not a daily I dont worry.

I had been running Total Quartz 10W60 after BE bearing install, and was seeing temps as high as 230(93-98 outside temp). Switched back to Castrol TWS and now consistently seeing 200-215 max with the same outside temps.....

Missed this thread when you first posted. I took this picture during that same heat wave.

I don't think mine got quite as high as yours, but that was definitely the highest I've seen.

Yours looks par for the course. Once I got out of traffic and moving I was about where you were. Thanx for the picture!

N54s see 230-240 degrees normal driving and peaks of 245-250 with spirited driving. Out of curiosity do you S65 folks have oil coolers from the factory?

Yes we do. Our thermostats have been criticized for their response to heat relative to how it opens and closes. Also our oil retains heat way more than the oil in the N54. I had a 335 before my M3. Heat soak annoyed the shit out of me with that car. It was very quick but couldn't hang long.

Couldn't have said that better myself, consistently saw 230-250F in my previous 335i just cruising not beating on it on hot days. Any pulls or spirited driving and it was over 250 easily.

Just catching up with this now. The image below is after about 30 minutes of "spirited" highway running between 80-105, and then about 5 mins of sitting in a parking lot idling. My car is bone stock and this is where my temp needle lives 95% of the time, which I always thought was impressive given that in AZ we see these temperatures daily for about 5-6 months of the year.

I love seeing so many high mileage M3s. There are so many out there in the 125-175k mileage range that we never hear about with owners still flogging them and smiling ear to ear.
