Also depends on where you live, here in Florida the stop lights take so long to change, which is one of the reasons I no longer daily my M3 it felt like a waste in rush hour commute.
But Auto Start/Stop in my Lexus SUV makes so much sense, starts are barely noticeable, AC compressor is electric so I can sit at lights or in traffic for several minutes without my AC getting warm in this Florida heat while I wait for lights that take forever. So there is a place for ASS, but if my M3 had it, it wouldn't be enabled for sure. It is a useful feature in some applications. |

Yeah I see what you're saying. They can start/stop those EPA test mules for ever for all I care lol. Imagine if that feature couldn't be turned off...

I haven't used this feature all that much in the past but am using it more where I am currently(the lights are long). It becomes nice and quiet for me to hear the music while waiting for the traffic light to change. I can actually hear myself think. Kinda serene if you ask me. However, in bumper to bumper traffic like around NYC, I turn it off.
One thing I learned is that if you have your SES light on or have ghost codes regarding O2 sensors or the like, this feature doesn't work.

Actually, it didn't.
When start/stop was introduced, the starter was changed, and eventually all of them used the upgraded starter. You'll find a different starter in 08-10 models.

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=12_1200 12417843526 is the starter on my LCI Auto Start-Stop equipped E92 M3. The same P/N is shared across all E9X models, LCI and Pre-LCI alike. Edit: I take that back, you're right. 12417837775 was used up from 06/01/2007 — 12/07/2011, the life cycle of the Pre-LCI cars. It appears now (as you stated) that they use 12417843526 for all E9X M3 across the board.

Yes, I made the edit right as you were posting.
RealOEM diagrams do mean plenty, as I just showed with correcting myself. So I wouldn't say they don't mean anything
