I had a lightly modded E92 that I never tracked but it made the GT3 feel like a go kart. The GT3 is so quick and nimble where you feel the road (in a good way). The RS variant just takes it up a bit more. You can't compare an M3 to a GT3/RS, they are completely different cars.

M3 daily driver + dedicated track Porsche
+ tow vehicle is the winning garage combination.

Problem being that I only have a 2-car garage that fits the RS and the wheels, tires, jack, parts, etc. I need a 3-car garage....

All you guys are getting me excited to get this new toy out on the track!

Although I have only put in 300 break-in miles (2,000 miles total required) and kept the engine down to a low 4,200 rpm (9,000 rpm maximum), I have to say the GT3 stock suspension and handling feels much better already compared to my cambered E92M with CS KW, 275/35/18f / 285/35/18r tires, etc. Also, your are seated much lower to the ground thus you feel like you are planted like in a go-kart.

More to follow soon....

You have no idea how much better it is

I would highly recommend getting a set of the Porsche sport buckets as soon as they are released in the US. Further depens the connection to and feel of the car. They also come with the added bonus of no longer needing to brace yourself against the door/center console

Congrats on the GT3! Mine should arrive in the next couple of weeks. I had a chance to go for a ride in a brand new GT3 last week, he had picked up the night before and only had a couple hundred km's on it. Unbelievably fast on the track, has gotten me impatient!
I have a 12 M3 which will unfortunately have to go as I don't have the garage space to keep 4 cars, plus the wife is starting to worry she might loose her parking spot.

That looks like the Motorsport Reunion at Laguna Seca from this past weekend. I didnt know Patrick Long was driving that thing. The BMW 2002 Alpina didn't do too bad either. That's just pure badass driving. Those were some busy hands. The hell with smooth and "slowly straighten your hand" when you are that good.

11/2014 Update:

Stock 991 GT3 ran 1.49.27 at ACS with full nannies on and in automatic.

GT3 can go faster but life preservation and the presence of concrete walls holding me back.

Did a couple of sessions with nannies off, and spun a few times. Unlike the M3, you are going so fast around turns that you have to counter immediately once the rear begins to break loose. Waiting a second is too late as the rear motor mass swings you around so rapidly. I need some skid pad time!

Can't imagine 1st turn at Laguna Seca with that long left hand sweeper going down hill.

Unload the rear with lateral load before braking hard for the double apex.

At least with the M3, it progressively loses traction with plenty of heads up notice.

CalSE: Are you on stock alignment? Not sure about the 991 but the 997 GT3 is pretty manageable in a slide but requires you to stay in throttle vs. lift.

Great time for holding back. My guess is the car is capable of a few more seconds faster. Best I could muster in the 997.2 while still holding back in turns 1,2 was 1:51.
