Front Plate Holders: Factory Installed on US Spec M3?

Here are a couple pictures of production M3s from dillon733 and 6MTgirl. All with front plate holders on... this worries me a little bit...

they even come painted in body color. so are they factory installed for the M3?

Front plate holder

I hope they are still dealer installed. I never had one on my E46 for the last 7 years and no problem. If there are holes to fill, I will do the reflector indentations at the same time or just get the Euro bumper cover.

I won't be having one on mine although it is a law. They don't really enforce it that much anymore where I live. Those are MFGR cars anyways. The plate holder will be loose in the trunk when your car arrives most likely.

There are most likely two pre-drilled holes in the front fascia, but on the lower edge and pointing straight up. If there is a bracket installed already it's just a matter of removing it. There shouldn't be any holes on the vertical surface of the fascia. That's how the E46s were anyways. If the dealer drills holes in my car he might as well not even bother calling me.

The dealer is the one that installs them.

My '01 E46 holder had two screws through the front of the bumper only. Did they change it later?

Looks like the current one (photo below) has screws through the front as well.

My '03 has them as I've described. It's a 330i though, not an M3. I just figured they would be done the same. It does look like there are fasteners going straight into the vertical surface. My bracket better remain in the trunk.

Ask your CA to remove it an put it on his desk as soon as the car arrives, or do it yourself. No "mistakes" that way.

Yeah, that's what he did with my current car. No worries.

I'm on board with what everyone here is saying. They better not install one on my car. Luckily, I'm purchasing my car in PA where front license plates are not required, so I'm hoping the car prep guys aren't spring loaded to install the front plate like they would be in states that require front plates.

Front plates are ugly.

I think the deal with the pics posted above is, that BMW NA registers all their cars in NJ, where front plates are required, so I bet they automatically put the front plate holder on for corporate cars.

Yes, but they serve a purpose, specially here in the laser-happy state of Ohio. Cops love to shoot at them, which puts my laser jammer on better footing. I always put mine on.

Enforcement of plate laws may step up as more speed and red light cameras come into use, as well.

All BMWs are done this way. Here in Ohio where front plates are mandatory I take delivery with the plate holder in the trunk and the dealer asks if I would like them to mount it before leaving. No begging or threats to leave it off needed.

I gotta find a alternative.

It's worth the $10 fix it ticket to not have a plate.
