Muffler removal - your opinions?
Considering a muffler delete on my 08 e92 m3...taking muffler out and having pipes coming all the way out back replace it. I know this is an old, long talked about subject. I've read a lot about it in older threads, all of them seem to have mixed reviews. From videos I've seen, I love the sound. Some videos have the resonators out as well and personally I don't like that sound.

The factory mufflers have a built in Helmholtz resonator which removes a lot of the bassey tones without removing any volume from the exhaust. I recommend getting a 4 pipe mod done to ur exhaust to effectively do the same thing without giving the exhaust deep bassey rasp

It sounds amazing for about 5 minutes, and then your head starts hurting.

The drone is horrendous at low rpm and drones at highway crusing speeds also, don't do it. I speak from experience with a set of straight pipes replacing the muffler section. Was so bad I had it less than 24 hrs

Just do cutouts. Cutting out mufflers and resonators is 300 credit score activities

The previous owner did it with spare parts he had sitting around the shop, I think it’s an ECS valve kit. It should be the sport exhaust. That’s what the original owner and IND put on it when they built it as a portfolio car back in 09. It’s stupid loud and the only thing it’s good for his hurting eardrums and feelings. Plus we did see a small increase on a dyno. Sounds like a demon in tunnels. Not as bad as a vagina drying burble tune though.

Muffler delete is one of most low-IQ car things you can do (along with burble/flame tunes). IMO cars should have a speed/volume ratio, 99.9999% of muffler delete cars sound stupid and nobody besides other teenagers thinks it's cool. Just invest in a proper cat back system and enjoy the glorious sound of that V8
