Nevertheless, if the build date is 2010 and original MSRP was over 70K then your 55K is a great deal. The only 2010 that I have seen over into the 60K range. Hell, I am looking at a 2009 with 23K miles fully loaded and the dealer is firm at 53K. I will wait a bit as this car has been on the market for at 2 months now and still not sold...I have high hopes.
Yeah, the build date on the car is actually 10/09.

I was looking at this e90 sedan: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r_id=302407251

I haven't called them yet, so I am not sure if they are willing to deal. What kind of offer should I make for it?

Looking at the same car, I emailed them and they offered a 2k reduction. So they are asking for 54k.
Anyhow, what is the rule of thumb in offering a dealer? 10% less than their asking price? Or the price they are asking for is OTD?

Any advice would be great.

When I bought mine last week, I knew they had it marked LOW...see my post "", but that didn't stop me from low balling them on an offer via email. They had it listed at $46,9XX. I offered them $44,500. They came back with $46,250. I returned with a $45,500 and offered to give them a credit card number to hold the car ($500 deposit) until I got there. They returned an offer of $46,000 and said the boss wouldn't go under $46k. I accepted and said I'd be there the next day to test drive it.

I test drove it. They started the paperwork and the price was never discussed again.

Once again, it was a Toyota Dealer. They hadn't even found or tried to find the original window sticker until I asked for it. Once they saw that document showing the original price of $81,970, they realized they had priced the car low to begin with, but they still were top-notch and extremely thankful that we had driven 7 hours to come down there!

I guess my point is when you make an offer, leave play room. At least it shows your interest in the car!

It kills me that dealers always pull the orginal MSRP when talking about price..."you know that this car MSRPed for over $70K..." What does that mean to me...nothing. I would not pay MSRP if I was buying the car new. And everyone knows whatever price you get for a new car it drops as soon as you take it off the lot

Doing my research in buying used cars I have found most large dealers will not even bother to check what the market is for a given car. What the dealers look at is what they paid for it and mark it up their standard percentage. That is why you see the lowest prices at large dealers. However, once the price is set initially most sales people have an allowed percentage drop before consulting the manager. Then the manager looks at other factors such as overall sales volume for the month, the hit rate for the car, length of time on the lot, etc..to determine if they can let it go at cost.

So you got a great deal which is awsome but rest to sure they still made money but how much we will never know. And when they pulled the sticker was probably surprized that the car depreciated so much as well as kicking themselves for not sticking to their guns.

So do you guys think 55 is acceptable then? Or should I try to play harball a little? (I was thinking about having them throw in a clear bra on any deal). Also, here are the finance rates they are offering on the car:

60 mo - 2.7
72 mo - 3.2
84 mo - 4.1

exactly how you should approach used car shopping or new car shopping. Who gives a fuck how much the car USED to cost?! It's what the car is worth today to ME! That's what is relevant.

I can price my feces at $100 per ounce, but I'm only willing to go down to $99 per ounce, wtf, it's still poop, it's worth shit.

If the original MSRP is over $70K (and only using this as a gauge on options) then I say yes in the current market.

Now, if you are financing with them you could work them more as they may get some type of residual for brokering a finance deal. This is a technique that my friend uses. Also, try asking them if you did not finance and paid them upfront would it help becuase money now is worth more than money later.

Lastly, in order for the latter to work you will need to have an alternate source of funding lined up. I found a great funding source that approved me for $50K @ 2.49 for 60 months. PM me if interested as I am not sure I can post that type of link here?

WOW! 84 Months?? It's amazing what banks will do and try to make a car that one might not be able to afford become "affordable" monthly. Now that being said, 4.1% for 84 months isn't terrible. I would feel like I would never own the car though. lol

LOL, yeah they were really trying to push the 84 months on me. The only thing holding me back right now is the mileage, I checked carfax and the car was owned for 1 year and 3 months, so I guess 20k miles isn't THAT bad.

I would say yes! Considering that I have conceded my search and getting a similar optioned car with 26K miles for $52.5K. In the past month of searching I have only found 2 cars in the color combo that I want so before the wife changes her mind I bringing this sucker home ASAP.

FYI: Originally the dealer listed for $56K which is not outrageous but inline with all comparable cars in the market now.

You mention "Private sale so no tax". Is that an Arizona state law? I'm fairly certain that you have to pay tax when you take the car into the DMV. I certainly did, here in Michigan when I went to get the car registered and titled under my name.

Otherwise, this is a great deal. I bought mine nearly 3 months ago for $53K, fully loaded E92 coupe with Remus sport exhaust, CF front splitters and rear diffuser, tint and clear bra on the front. It had nearly 11K miles on it when purchased.

I am not sure what the law is but there is no tax on cars purchased privately in Arizona, I just bought my brothers car a couple months ago from a private party and after I paid for his car all I paid was his registration fees for 18 months which was a little under $800, thats it. Saved me over 9% in taxes because I didn't go with a dealer.

I would assume this seller is on this forums in SoCal? But from what I know in Cali, private=tax, unless u declare the value to be 0. hahaha

Yes he is in Cali. Well I live in AZ so I just pay the seller and then bring it to AZ and register it here, if I were to register it in Cali then I would pay tax.

each state is different. It appears you pay about $800 in registration fees for 18 months, do you have to pay these type of fees again later on every year or every few years? If so, it's basically a sales tax on your car. I paid almost $2000 in taxes on my car, but that's it, 1 time fee, then I just pay my $50 a year for tags.

Looking at a used 2010 E90

Here are the options:

Space Gray
DCT
Premium package
Moonroof
Split fold-down rear seats
Park Distance Control
Ipod and USB
19" double-spoke wheels

It has a little over 6,700 miles on it.

I offered 54700 but I think they want 55K for it. Does anybody think it's a good deal or simply too high?
