ST60 would be way more than enough for weekend warrior though. It's only when you get into weird knockback issues that the AP racing kit shines.

I believe the Alcon kit was designed to work with most popular 18" wheel options, certainly the BW wheels and they have similar clearance to the APEX's.

But totally, if they don't work with whatever 18" wheels he's got, then AP is the way to go.

I feel like people buy that kit for the name and that’s it.

I look at it this way:
Stoptech if you’re on a budget
AP Racing or BW Alcon kit if you have the extra $$$

I have the Stoptech ST60/40 combo now and it works great but the knock back is very real and gets to be annoying. Plus Stoptech has had some pretty bad supply issues. Just took me 2.5 months to get replacement rotor rings for my fronts.
I wish I went with AP or the BW kit when I bought my setup. I love that pad options on those kits and how thick the pads can be

Throw in some knockback springs. Supply chain for a lot of stuff has been a total mess this year, I don't know if that's fully representative of what StopTech is normally like.

M3 Number 86 was still having knockback issues with 4 or 6lb springs IIRC.

That pushed me to move to AP.

I wonder how many of you ever even heard of Alcon before BW started carrying them as a replacement to the PFC.

Brembo GT is a street kit, with good looks. Not a long term solution for a tracked car. However the GTS is pretty much same price and I'm not exactly sure I could be convinced the comparable Alcon or AP is superior. The uber thick pad of the 9668 is rad, but if it has taper issues?

Brembo owns AP fwiw.

4 or 6lb springs + grinding down the top and bottom edge of the pads to ensure they slide in freely with almost no contact/tension helps the knockback a ton.
Not ideal, but does improve.

Definitely heard of them at least a decade ago. Didn't really look into them as an option for any of the platforms I was in at the time. One of my buddies does have an Alcon kit on his e46.

I like the GTS kit. Shame it isn't anymore popular. I think what happened is Essex is just damn good at marketing 😂

Make sure to put your pads on a grinder so they slide in easily. that's the big ticket.

After doing a caliper rebuild, 6lb knockback springs, grinding the pads to make sure they were free to move, replacing hubs, going to the (horrifically annoying) race floating rotor hardware… I finally resolved the knockback in my Stoptech ST60 trophy kit…

I replaced it with an AP/Essex 9668 kit. Pedal has been absolutely perfect ever since.

lol. I didn't end up installing the trophy kit on my M3 when it arrived; sold it since I will be listing my M3 for sale soon.

Have a Trophy Sport kit on the way for my Supra though. I hope it's true that it's an E9x platform problem, not a widespread Stoptech problem!

What, knockback? It's a physics problem that will exist on any car.

Haha yes agreed that it can happen on any car and any braking system.. my thinking is more about whether it is relatively bad vs. other options on the Supra platform too.

Strangely, I only noticed knockback with my Rotora street BBK maybe 3-5 times! And it's not some ultra high tech racing level 1000 kit

If anyones thinking of buying a kit, just bite the bullet and go AP’s, their amazing, last long without rebuilds, loads of pad choices and also you can run truck thick pads!!

Another +1 for AP. Upgraded my fronts and it's one of the best things I did for the car.

Not to bump an old thread but had a question on anti-rattle clips and this seemed like the best thread.

I drove my AP Racing 9660's without the anti-rattle clips for ~2 weeks before the rattling of the pads got to me and I put them in yesterday (and I agree with their video that getting the car airborne and the wheels off was more effort than installing the clips). What a difference for a car that spends a fair amount of time on the street.

Besides the cost and perhaps the ever so slightly more time when swapping pads, are there any other downsides to these clips? Would seem a no brainer even on a track car but for those who don't run them, would be interested to know why.

I haven't had mine in since I installed them. They rattled for a few weeks then after my first track day no more rattle

There's no downside besides the noise. I finally got mine in so I'll prob put them on when I switch back to the DS2500s just because.

there is no downside really, sometimes just an extra few minutes to get them on right.
