Who's Keeping their m3 AFTER extended warranty??
I know the general consensus is pretty much split in half amongst forum members on whether to purchase extended warranty.....many members wouldn't want to own an m3 out of warranty and go ahead with an additional 2 or 3 years of extended warranty while many others just put aside a few thousand that they would've spent on the warranty into a "just in case" repair account of sorts.
I'm with the latter half and have a chunk of change set aside as I'm currently at around 52k miles. What I'm curious about is what all these extended warranty owners will do once it expires and car is no longer eligible for any type of warranty extension....? Are most of these owners getting rid of their car at this point as it is now out of warranty? |

My car is July 2008 production. Never got an extended warranty. No issues to date, but I only have 20K miles. lol I think the car is a pretty damn solid car. Even if I drove a ton in it, I probably would not opt for an extended warranty....

Learn to work on it yourself as much as possible.
Make friends with local indy shops who are often way better than dealer anyway. Make it a dedicated track car and buy track insurance. |

Bought a S/C the first year to get rid of the free warranty so I wouldn't have this problem to answer 4 years later....

I'm going to drive it until the wheels fall off. Seriously, the thought of selling this thing is never ever going to enter my mind. :-)
(FWIW, my BMW EVP is until February 2017)

Protected until 2018... 2010 e90 m3 23k on the clock.
Can't say for sure I will even own the car then. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined and can do some basic stuff....you should be good. Befriending folk at the local indy shop is a non-negotiable if you own this car past warranty. lol |

I plan to keep the car forever, gradually turning it into a dedicated track toy...I would only buy an extended warranty for the "just in case my engines goes kaboom" peace of mind. I think that is alone worth it....anything else that I get with it is a bonus.
I already do most of the work on my car myself, its just I can't rebuild an engine LOL. What do you guys think? |

That's why I got it -- catastrophic failure insurance (engine, M-DCT, EDC, etc). Minor stuff...I'll do it myself.

I have 1 year left on my extended warranty and will keep the car for a while. Then again I bought it only two years ago used and have had warranty work done 2 times already, all major repairs (valve spring replacement, new 6MT due to shot syncros). Car now has 68k, bought with 52k.

Just bought mine out of warranty! There might be some aftermarket option I could pursue but IMO it's not worth it. So I guess you could say I'm keeping it.
My internet perusal and couple of conversations led me to believe (probably erroneously) that the current gen M3's are some of BMW's most reliable cars. Hardly definitive I got scared away from many other options... SMG failure etc. and valve adjustments on the last M3's, Z4M... RMS IMS and crappy tiptronic on the porsches... Vanos and basically everything on the M5... seems like every car has problems if you dig deep enough, but not so much the e92 M3s. |

I just bought an 11' out of warranty with (50K miles exactly). This car is solid, and if something happens...I will eat it, but for the most part....we have 08' model cars on here that have 100K+ miles with hardly any issues.

this may sound weird to some. but if i was married and had a family. things like my car getting old wont matter as much. being where i am with life, i want new and fast cars.
therefore i dont keep cars past there warranty not because of the warranty but its just getting somthing new. |

Bought my 08 with 57k miles, so no warranty to begin with. Never planning on getting rid of mine. I'll add other cars of course, but my E92 is here to stay.
