Stoner Tarminator - spray it on, and then it instantly comes off with a cotton terry cloth - I use the same cloth to get another spot, and another, until it seems to be slowing down, then spray some more.

I'm still learning. Second video is the TLDR version.

I would recommend using a cheap microphone on the rear bumper. You'll avoid the deafening wind noise that makes the audio all-but-worthless at anything under 20mph.

Tarminator works well for me too. I have a waffle-weave microfibre that lets me put a bit more elbow-grease in versus a standard one. I think they market it as a "glass cleaning" microfibre.

If Tarminator doesn't work, I have used the comparable 3M product. It's a bit harsher so I only use when absolutely necessary.

I'm trying to find a good spot inside the cabin. Hiding my mic behind what I thought would be a good wind barrier didn't work.

It's tough in the cabin since you've basically got a huge suction effect.

I tape mine onto the rear bumper just below the license plate.

I found putting my mic inside the center console works really well. Almost no wind noise but you can still hear the engine and exhaust albeit it's somewhat muted. I just set it on a cloth so it doesn't rattle against the hard plastic on the inside of the console.

I deleted my center console lol. I'm gonna try to put it under the carpet (no rear seats) next time.

man - you need a louder exhaust then!

do you still have the trunk mat in the car? if you leave it in you can put it under there - if not, don't know why the sound was so muted. how thick is your wind sock?

your mic attached to bumper sounds like mine just stashed in the trunk somewhere.

when i put it on the outside, it sounds a lot different. inside the trunk for me sounds closer to how it sounds when driving.

There aren't many options louder than my Supersprint Race. I can only think of GruppeM and BimmerWorld exhaust. Try this video? Mic was placed closer to exhaust tip. Skip around to about halfway point.

Yes I do have the trunk mat. Last time I experimented with mic placement there, I had some static issues, but I have a better mic and new extension cord now. Completely forgot to try putting it under the mat. I don't have a wind buffer for this mic. I should get one.

What kind of mic do you use? Strange that putting it somewhere in the cabin would have muffled the sound that much. Unless you meant somewhere random and not in the trunk area where the sound might not pick up as much.

Forgot - how'd you get that yellow center strip on the leather wheel?

Sony ECM CS3 for the last two events. It's a $15 mic, I wouldn't expect it to be too impressive. It did capture intake noise better than my $1 no brand mic from Amazon. I clipped it right behind the center seat belt, but I'm going to try to tuck it in under the carpet next time. My goal is to capture exhaust and brake noise to help with analysis (and diff bc it sounds awesome).

I used yellow electrical tape on steering wheel lol. It really helps when analyzing videos.

I started using Molecule's cleaner spray on the advice of a race car driver I met at a track event and it works like a charm as well. I'd say it probably requires less elbow grease than Tarminator and smells better.

I didn't want to say "IS THAT TAPE?! LOLOL" so I asked instead

I might do that for my next event - just because it looks cool haha

Car is still a work in progress but I'll contribute from my archives. One little save...and then one big save from a tire wall, concrete wall or ditch...or a combination of the above.
