If the OP wants a more reasonably price version of the PS2's, then all he has to do is buy a set of Vredesteins. (and his problem is solved)

For those who have no idea of what Vredestein tires offer...

Excellent dry grip (virtually equal to PS2's)
Excellent wet grip (better than PS2's)
Excellent turn in performance (stiffer sidewalls than PS2's)
Excellent Tread wear rating (last longer than PS2's)
Better value for the money (cost about half as much as PS2's)

Give these tires a shot, and it's highly unlikely you will ever buy PS2's again. (not kidding)

I have been the biggest fan of these tires since I became aware of them through a distributor about three years ago. They don't advertise much, so many guys have never heard of them.

I am a Vredestien convert, who was a previous PS2 disciple. The two tires are very similar in performance, but I give the edge (all things considered) the Vreds. Can't say enough good things about these tires. They're the best.
Vredestein tires are rebadged michelins, these are sister companies

I have them on my e90M3, 19". They are just OK. Experiment that answered my question with "no"; The question being, "are they better than PS2s?". The ride is better, they are quiet. Much less grip in the wet (traction control comes on at 60mph + under accel), and the response is "dull", and it makes the overall feel of the dynamics of the car softer. Great value, but clearly a compromise. I have dedicated track wheels/tires, so it's it not the end of the world for me. I would no recommend for double duty.

I don't plan to trust C&D's tire shoot out results again.

That's nearly 3/4 of an inch smaller than stock, and your ride comfort will suffer as a result. And since better ride quality (due to a taller sidewall) is one of the key benefits of going with 18's in the first place...you don't want to erase that advantage by choosing a tire that much smaller than stock.

The 275/40/18 (26.6") is a more suitable suitable upgrade to the stock 265/40/18. And it will offer excellent ride comfort and you won't suffer any negative effects.
Vred don't have a 275/40/18 that I can find. Can anyone give me a reason why I would pick one of these combos over another..

245/40/18, 255/40/18
or
255/35/18 275/35/18

Thanks

Have you had these out on the track? I'm looking at 4 track days this season. I dont want to compromise the track use.

I'm considering getting a set of 18" w/ PS2 for track use, then go with a less expensive 19" for daily use. This way I get the "stock" feel of the car withouth compromising.

I did a track day with a ZHP and those UHP exclaims. Horrible experience vs. the PS2's

This is a great thread. I'll be needing to replace my rears in about 5000km or so (fronts are still good for a while), but for the price of the Vredestein tires, I might as well change out all 4 and keep the same brand all around.

I don't like mixing and matching tires on a car, so this seems like the best solution. Thanks guys!

I have about 500 miles on Vreds and really like them so far. As said in other threads, the Vreds are a great value---just as good as the PS2s---maybe better in wet but a touch harsher ride---stiffer sidewall. Personally, I am okay with that---feels sportier. Also, the tread looks great---really adds to the overall character of the car.
