So some of us have a clicking sound from our suspension while turning and others have a clicking sound from their engines while at a stand still. WTF is going on here?

I bet it's the same noise and the same part, but the ones that have it while simply revving the engine have it much worse.

For those that the sound's occurring much worse; have you visited your dealership?
If so, what was the determined root of the problem?

Try taking a banked right turn freeway interchange at good speed with the driver's side window down. You don't necessarily have to be off or on the throttle.

no, what is strange is that sometimes you can hear it very well (just open the window, and take a turn, no need to be hard), sometimes it is impossible to hear (but this is more rare).

My problem was definitely not an engine sound (at least I don't think so). It was there before and after the 1200 mile service and it was fixed. |

DCT here, but I think others have MT because they talk about revving it in different gears. That was just an assumption I made while reading some posts.

MT here, and I have only heard this one time and as mentioned.....it had nothing to do with reving the engine.
If I do hear the sound for a 2nd or 3rd time, i will bring my car in, as I do track events at times, and don't feel the need for my tire to come spinning off while going 100+ mph through a turn

[QUOTE=knifegun;2918438]My issue was very constant and easily replicatable. If I took a right hand turn at speed, it made a ratcheting sound. To replicate it on a straight road, I would simply have to go 25 MPH and slightly steer to the left and then make a hard right with my head out the window. It was VERY obvious and replicatable every time. It did not get louder at higher speeds. After the dealer tinkered with all the bolts on the suspension, the sound went away. I have been trying to reproduce it and luckily, it appears to be gone.=QUOTE]
.. yea im in ur boat, nothing to do with the engine, what dealership did you attend as i may want to inform my dealer to contact yours about the issue.. |

Think people have brought their car's in, however most answers seem wishy washy from the techs. Do you drive an e92M or e46M?

Here's my theory.
I just put Euro rotors (with the floating radial pins) on my E39 M5... The car never made this noise while cornering before that, but now it does it all the time, UNLESS I apply the brakes... Noticeable only when windows are open. Sounds like playing cards in the wheel spokes... Rather odd. The dissimilar metals are expanding and contracting. It's most noisy on hotter days. I hear it when the passenger side is close to a guardrail on grassy bank to reflect the sound. Try it with and w/o the brakes applied and see if you don't agree... As soon as the caliper squeezes it they quiet down. Now I'm beginning to see why BMW NA used to prevent US spec M cars from having the "floating rotors"... The noise causes picky owners to freak out! It'll be the same issue when we take delivery of the White M3 sedan about a month from now. Form follows function, and I plan to get used to it.
