No I would tend to agree. I think there will be many things that will keep me entertained when I get my baby... September build confirmed today... November delivery here we come!

In case anyone cares, I can confirm that the transmission WILL drop to 1st gear if you are going slow enough (at least in S5 mode). I tried it at about 15mph in 3rd gear, and it dropped me right to 1st. This is very cool actually, IMHO. It just goes to show, BMW does not consider 1st gear only for take-offs.

Just had a bit of a rethink on this...I now reckon that when you request a downshift the gearbox software always checks the position of the throttle pedal to decide how much or if any rev matching is required.
With a downshift in the higher gearbox modes you get rev matching pretty much always, whereas in the low numbered modes like S1 & 2 you only get rev matched downshifts (at low revs) if the software reads that the throttle is depressed. The slower S1/2 gearbox modes give you extra time to dab the throttle (or hold it slightly open) to speed up the downshift.
