Recent Recall on 2008 - 2013 BMW M3's?

Not sure if this is bullshit or not, or if the dealer was trying to convince me to get a newer M3... BUT,

He said that in late February there was a recall due to airbag issues on ALL 2008-2013 M3's. Claims that until there's a fix that they aren't able to sell that year M3, even though they are getting a bunch of new ones in. He pointed to one in the nearby lot that apparently could not be sold for this issue.

Is this BS? It was a branded BMW dealership.

That's correct. Look further down in this forum and you'll see that the M3 was affected by the Takata recall:

Ah... Interesting. So looks like I won't be able to pick up a 2013 any time soon?

...Unless it's from a private party?

im in the process of trying to trade my e92 m3 in. I am having difficulty because dealers dont want to accept it as there is a 'Stop Sale' on the car.

I spoke to bmw NA about it and we should be getting the recall notice's in April and parts will become available Late 2016 / Early 2017.

You can still purchase one private party.

My experience with my e46 airbag recall was not pleasing. In the end I just gave up. I still have the recall notice but could never get the airbag replaced, been on waiting list through my local dealer for months yet nothing. Hope the parts will be available but I have zero confidence for the e90 airbag recall as well.

This whole Takata air bag thing is a clusterf***. They're never going to be able to keep up with the # of airbags that need to be recalled!!

same deal for me, was ready to pull the trigger on F80 (trade in my E90) and the stop sale is delaying every thing for me. My dealership tells me they are sitting on a lot full of used BMWs that they can't sell because of the stop sale order..

seems like your best option is to private party sell the car. E9X cars have fallen a lot in the last year and will continue to do so. The lack of them being able to be CPO'd will probably mean more on the used market and lower sale prices so I would get on it sooner than later.

You should be able to check the VIN number to see if it on the recall list. My understanding is that not all M3s are effected. Mine came back negative so I'm not worring about it. However, my 03 540 is on the list and I was told by my dealer that they will notify me when they have a solution.

A quick look at autotrader.com shows that nation wide there were only 12 CPO e9x M3's listed out of a total of 769 listings. I saw lots of cars available from non-BMW dealers and of course private sellers. Those twelve CPO listings are probably old listings, so for the foreseeable future, BMW dealers will not be selling Certified Pre Owned e92 cars.

So does that mean even the ones on the BMW CPO website you can't purchase it? I'm really glad I got mine in December.

I had to replace the airbag (recall) in my e46 M3. The dealer kept my car for a week, although they did give me a new 3 series to drive during that time. I do not look forward to having to go through the same thing all over again.

I assume that E92 cars that are not on the list can still be CPO'd; and those that are can be CPO'd once the airbags are replaced, correct?

Wow... That's a bummer!

Due to this recall and my own personal interests, I've been encouraged to consider a lease of a new M4 Convertible...

It makes sense for my current financial situation to consider a lease.

I've never done a lease before, and my inexperience is already beginning to show...

I must call on help from you my brothers in arms.

How much would you pay for this car? As I understand it, a price on the car should be negotiated first...?

And then, what would a good lease situation be...?

http://www.bmwofsarasota.com/new/BMW...6e5de8407e.htm

I'd be looking to do a 2yr lease, with $0 down.

I'm in Florida.

I've noticed that you and Jaco are driving E90s. I'm wondering if the airbag in those units is different than mine (E93). Wondering if more people post here and see if that's the case.
