Another blue E92

Picked this up recently. Interlagos over palladium E92 M3 with a 6MT. Excited to get into project mode this summer! First order of business is swapping a euro bumper (terrible paint match on current bumper) and redoing the gel coat on the carbon roof.

Telling myself just wheels suspension and exhaust after that, but we know how that goes...

Here she is with my other blue E92. More pics coming after I get her back from paint.

excited to share an update soon. Unfortunately blew the rear differential, driveshaft, and left rear axle. After 2 weeks of hour after hour staring at my laptop tracking parts down, I have a solid list together.

-Diffsonline differential with 4.10 gearing
-DSS upgraded axles (cheaper than buying the 1 OEM axle I need 🤦🏽*♂️)
-Driveshaft specialist driveshaft with an upgraded u-joint, unless someone wants to sell their Mfactory carbon unit

Any other "while I'm in there" things I should change?

Super excited to get the car back after this. Really only enjoyed it for 2 months before this happened, and I've been itching to drive it ever since. My tuned 335i feels so tame and boring to me now.

Upgraded diff bushings and solid subframe bushings are a no brainer while you're doing the diff. I believe diffsonline even gives you the option to upgrade diff bushings on their website; I recommend Powerflex street. 4.10 gearing seems to be where it's at though. I'm jealous.

I did see the powerflex option on the diffsonline site, thanks for the recommendation. Will solid subframe mounts bring a lot of NVH? I'm thinking transmission mounts as well. Want to tighten up the drivetrain as much as I can without increasing NVH too obnoxious levels.

I'm really excited for the 4.10 gearing, it was really the silver lining to this whole situation!

Solid subframe bushings will introduce next to no NVH, F80s & F82s came from the factory with them. Diff bushings will add a little noise/whine, but not too much if any additional harshness or vibration. Transmission mounts would by far provide the most NVH. I can't speak for this chassis but I had a set on my E46 and they got pretty annoying.

Gotcha, thanks for the advice. I think I may just replace the transmission mount with a new OEM unit. I'm at 147k and not sure when (if ever) it's been replaced so I'm sure it'll be a good upgrade

Definitely worth doing. Engine mounts too if they haven't been done already. At 147k I'd also be looking at replacing some other bushings / arms too. That's a pretty big rabbit hole though.

Been driving around a few weeks after getting the new differential, driveshaft, and axle. Feels fantastic, especially with the upgraded diff mounts. The shop I used was unable to install the MRF subframe bushings, so gonna have to wait and get those installed sometime soon.

No pictures because the car unfortunately was in a minor hit and run but getting sorted out at a very well regarded shop locally. Can't wait to get it back looking brand new with the euro front bumper!

Thank you guys! Interlagos definitely an amazing E9x color. Lots of updates coming over the next few weeks as I get the car prepared for its first track day at summit point! Been a really enjoyable process slowly restoring + upgrading the car. Truly been enjoying every stage of it.

How did you manage to blow your diff/driveshaft/axle in the first place?

High mileage car + driving it hard to be honest. I think what happened was the differential bolt failed (seems to be a common-ish E9x thing, check yours out) which caused the differential to drop and fail internally. This caused the U-joint on the driveshaft to fail and the axle to fail.

Good piece of mind having it all fixed with upgraded differential mounts. Would be a shame to be scared to drive the car the way it's meant to be driven!

New bumper put on! Minor hit and run scratched the bumper and headlight so both got replaced.

Big milestone today. To celebrate will be doing an oil change, new spark plugs + coils, and a much needed paint correction on the car.

Threw some ZCP's on. Can't believe I waited this long to pick up a set.
