Dinan Stroker

I know Dinan was purchased but does anyone know if Dinan 4.6 stroker is still around? Anyone still doing them?

Don't pick up any of the older Dinan 4.6 motors around. A lot of them have bore scoring and bearing wear... Sadly there were a few examples on here that weren't taken good care of and Blackstone reports showed high levels of metal wear. Dinan also has no documentation/tollerances on these motors that were built when the company was still operated by Steve Dinan himself.

I'd reach out to Carbanh for a complete new build with a good core.

Looks like price still hasn't changed… Still $25k for a stroker build.

As desirable as it is, I dont think I could ever justify that high of a price. I am envious of people that go that route though.

That was my dream - but given the lack or reliability that a number of stroker owners have had, and the HUGE price tag, I decided to go with an ESS G1 kit.

What causes the reduced reliability in S65 stroker motors? Is it poor tolerances, or poor material choice?

Increasing stroke swings the connecting rod in a wider swath and generates more side load on the piston and rings. That's the cause of increased bore wear. It also increases pistons speeds, which adds to it.

Improperly built/bad part choices would be the only logical reason.

There is that. But even well built ones seem to not last a long time. See post above.

Has this been well documented on this forum or elsewhere? Just curious because I haven't seen much feedback on longitivity of Dinan stroker before that I can recall.

I did highway pulls in my 991.1 GT3 against the MRF 4.2 6speed coming back from Thermal. That was insanely close and if that car was DCT might have been a toss up. But not sure if MRF is building those for customers.

I think Auto Talent in LA also coordinates builds.

Just some other potential options if Dinan is unavailable.

Honestly, the super charger route just makes sense if you really want the power increase.

Put all that extra money you save on brakes/tires/training!

piston speed plays heavily into the life of this,

early dinan motors went to a 94mm bore with a 83mm stroke to achieve the 4.6 compared to the rdsport strokers which used a 93mm piston with a 85mm stroke small change here but the dinan motor had a maximum piston velocity of 4493fpm compared to the rd sport motors with 4601 fpm.
