Mine does too, but not when connected to Android Auto using the Carsara box, I believe this is true for everyone who's tried it? It does connect for calls I believe.

Which unit do you have?
From all I've read it's primarily due to the under arm rest 3.5mm input, I think the sound quality is better directly through the harness for non 6FL cars.

Oh I meant the Android Auto interface hehe. Carsara?

Mine I guess is officially 6NR because I have iPhone apps, but I also have the same functionality as 6FL and 6NF since I have the cradle. So, same issue, no way to get harness audio due to the way it is routed back to the Combox.

My car has no Combox and 6FL, I would consider trying to code out the 6FL to see if it does anything? I guess since I've only really used the AUX this entire time my expectations are too low. I work in software development and the coding discussions make my head spin, but maybe that's just because I can't read German.

If I have some time to figure out how to code out the 6FL I'll see if it gives me audio through the back.

That would be very interesting. I'm going to keep researching myself and see if I feel brave enough to give it a go.

I'm not sure if I can even re-use the cable from my tune for regular coding so if I have to buy anything I'll probably be too lazy. But I'll do some homework when I have time.

Ah okay thought you meant it wasn't working with just the combox/cic.

AliExpress sale is live. Im trying to make a decision on which one to buy.

What are your thoughts on the Avin units that replace the actual screen? Do they use the same aux config?

The AVIN android units also use aux in. I've generally heard overall worse experiences with them...

I tried searching for Carsara e90 and I got a half dozen results ranging in price from 195 to 210...
The one that's $195 has model number CP12 and is 140*100*25mm. The rest are model 2101 and are 148*94*23mm.
Anyone know which is the one to get, or if they're even different?

I am considering ordering this one today too.

How are software updates handled with these? Seems like these boxes might be similar across manufacturers. Is there an xda developers or other forum that has information about this?

I haven't found much information. It looks like you can update via USB, but I've not seen anywhere to download updates. I don't think it matters too much though as they are only there to run Carplay or AA which are constantly updated

Carplay/Android Auto itself is really the software running on your mobile device and being emulated/displayed through the firmware on the carplay box. They do this because otherwise every car would require a firmware/software update each time a new OS came out which wasn't practical.

I would say unless the manufacturer released some specific bug fix for some problem in their firmware, you should never have to update these. The carsara website has nothing under "support" or "Firmware updates" so I assume once you get this, thats the end of your support.

Good point. If I use the Ali Express "compatibility" checker, it says my 2011 E91 is not compatible. I am 99% sure it is as long as I get the CIC version. They only mention some 2012-2013 vehicles that had a different LVDS cable so I should be ok.

Placed my order.

Anyone have a good trim removal/pick tool kit that they know of? Ali express or elsewhere?

I'm pretty sure that's fine. Mine is a 2011 E90, they are pretty much identical when it comes to infotainment.

I got the AliExpress one from the same page so it came in the same box. It's ok, pretty cheap but did the job. I'm sure there's better stronger ones but it worked.

Just placed my order too, for the above link.

As for harness-aux-in, I found this option in the CIC advanced coding:
CDMM_AUX_HU (there are a few other AUX settings in there, but this was most promising)
It is listed as disabled when the car includes a ULF, which makes sense (combox replaced ULF). Guess I'll try flipping that on when I hook up my icom later, and see what changes in the menus.

Harbor freight is perfect for this, I also highly recommend you have a cheap pick set - it was critical for getting some of those small ass connector pins loose and prying things apart easily.
