Better not leave the forums open on your computer !!!!! Hahahhaha

By the way I live in south OC, I welcome any nice roads in SD. I love going down there, the drive alone on the 5 is so scenic with the ocean to my right...

They are actually quite reliable.

Maintenance is not too bad, but parts are more expensive. As with Bmws the dealer is a rip off. Find a good Indy.

The Achilles heel are the oem coolant pipes which can fail on all 996/997 mezger engines. The fix is replacing the plastic elbows with metal ones and pinning them. This requires engine removal at a cost of $3500.

Also, the ceramic brakes are costly to replace and most swap to steel rotors.

I'd say BMW M2 but not the comp, I drove both and I loved the N55 it sounds much better and you can easily extract the hp to match the S55. It's such a fun car I would have it on the side of my E92 if I could.

No.

The S55 is lightyears better from a response/delivery point of view, to the point that even it didn't make any more power than the N55 it would still blow it out of the water. It is in a different league entirely.

The N55 feels like a typical turbo motor - huge midrange, dead top end. The S55 is a razor sharp, ultra-precision high rpm screamer, relatively.

But yeah, if all you care about it sound then sure.

N55 is literally a truck motor. I have no data to support this but it wouldn't surprise me if X5 35i's had more N55's in them than any other platform with that engine in the us

Oh, I forgot the worst part about the N55 - mega laggy.

The S55 has absolutely zero lag in all part-throttle situations, above 3k rpm, in Sport+. Zero, zilch, nada - just razor sharp, precision control all the way up the tach.

The N55 is fun, but comparing it to the S55 because it can make the same power is complete ignorance and tells me that someone needs a lot more seat time behind the S55.

Actually not really in the manual. The DCT cars fart because you keep your foot planted during upshifts and the farting is actually the blow off/anti-lag system. The manual cars do this FAR less because you generally lift a bit during shifts. The manual really only farts if you lay deep into the throttle lower in the tach and then abruptly lift. So yes, she'll fart but you've got to provoke her

I also love the S65 - it's the most thrilling engine I've ever owned. Much more thrilling than the S55 when on the boil.

But don't come in here and spew nonsense about how the N55 even remotely comes close the S55.

Good grief.

Edit - yes, still farts It's called function over form.

The N55 in my X5 makes me sad. Surprisingly it feels really peaky in that platform due to the vehicle's weight. I probably redline it the most of all the cars

EricSMG the N55 feels nothing like the S55. I've already put 1500 miles on my F80 CS. The S55 is very responsive and has almost zero turbo lag. Still nothing like the S65, but it has its own advantages.
