you can count on the convertible top not being made of carbon fiber. given, that carbon fiber is a weight saving technology and that convertibles suffer a significant weight penalty from their notoriously heavy structural rigidity reinforcements and in this case, a heavy roof retracting mechanism, it would make no sense for bmw to try and save 10 lbs by adding a piece as complicated as a CARBON FIBER 3 PIECE ROOF FOLDING MECHANISM, on a car that is already substantially (possibly several hundered pounds) heavier than its coupe counterpart : the e92 M3.

if you're getting a convertible, you're basically announcing that you're willing to make weight and performance sacrifices in the name of style.

I think Alpine325ci did a good job and service for us when he did that e93 M3

Kudos!

Its less about style than it is about the top down driving experience. But yes, its definitely a compromise vs. the coupe. On the other hand its still a more capable car than many other coupes on the market, so its all relative. Course, you do pay a big premium for the privlege of being able to lower the top.

I agree with this point. Perhaps some buy the convertible for style (weird but true I guess) but in my case I bought mine simply because there weren't any coupe's available. But now I can appreciate the thrill of driving out out town, on the open roads of secondary highways, with top down. Who cares about the style, it's the driving experience of being exposed to the elements for hours. And as I've stated before, unless you are experienced enough (skilled) to drive your M3 near the edge of its ability on the track (assuming you aren't on the track a lot each year) , the sacrifice of extra weight may be well worth it I think. Ok, it costs more $ but sometimes that is a moot point. Compromise is relative.
