The RE71R always wears like that in the middle bar. Mine are doing it now on my E92 with 275s on stock suspension, and the numerous sets of 245s and 255s I had on my miata with full suspension did the same. The middle tread wears at an angle like that then stops wearing. You won't notice a drop in grip. I tuned the miatas suspension using a pyrometer to get optimum temperature distribution across the tread so it's not a symptom of improper alignment or pressure. Just something they all do and is nothing to worry about.

So, I just mounted new front tires R888R 265/30/19. When I get to the track, 70 miles, and after unpacking, I am setting them on 35psi "warm". Meaning, they are not cold like the door sticker recommend but after being driven on. typically that means when touching the tire it is not cold. Actually, I will measure the temp for the purpose of reporting, and set the pressure to 35. The passenger front gets most of the workout. So if this gets to over 40psi, I will keep it at 40psi hot. The point for this is to control wear, not traction. My PS4S have lasted: 1. Open track day last Oct at NYST (wet) 2. Dry day at LRP ( 4 x 25m session) 3. Dry day at LRP ( 4 x 25m session) 4. Wet day at NYST (7 x 15m) 5. Wet day at NYST (7 x 20m) and they are still good with even wear. Now note that the last day (5) I did on a semi wet track 1:38.2 on the PS4S which is fast at NYST. My best time on ADO8R in the dry is 1:37.2 and on RR my best time dry is 1:37.3. So, as you can see, 1:38.2 is not bad in relations to my "observed" times. And the whole point? While on the 100 tread, 200 tread and the Slicks I experimented with all kind of tire pressures all lower, The PS4S, being my road tires, were never being below 35psi cold and I don't think that the high psi is that much slower to what they can do on my car and with this driver. Longevity of tires for people without sponsors is part of the HPDE sport. I don't mind destroying tires for the sake of experimenting, but not as normal part of going to HPDE. I don't have good data on running 38-40 psi on track tires because I always ran them 30-35 hot (coming off the track) and none have lasted enough to justify the cost. There is more to factor here like DSC off/on and driving on 3rd vs 4th thru the corners. I will report what ever I find..... |

I'm curious about the A052 which seems fast as well as the RivalS 1.5, but after the trauma of trying the R888R I'm sticking to what works and it'll take a lot to get me to switch again.

Have you tried chalking the sidewall and experiment with different tire pressure? I don't think low tire pressure is beneficial on the front tires of a heavy and camber challenged car

I more or less rotate them but don't flip them. Here in the wonderful northeast mounting tires is a nice $150, negating any tire savings

I've seen a few at AER this year but still, the experience of spending 1200 on tires only to have to throw them away (R888R) is still very fresh.
When something works well, don't change it. That's my motto |

I will stick with RS4 because they are half the price of 71R and a third of A052 Really like the Bridgestone in the front though.

Approximately $1600 for a full set of 71R. $800 for RS4.

Similarly, the PSC2 is pretty cheap in Europe but in the US it's really expensive I think you should sue BFG for not making the R1 and R1S available over there. It's so well suited to the E9X/F8X!! |

and breaking 60 seconds at LRP. If I can do that on the front 265/30/19 R888R, then they are good enough for 2019. |

No doubt WGI (And VIR and Road Atlanta) are big boy tracks. But LRP is still a pretty quick track. Much higher average speed than COTA for example.
