2009 Homelink Mirror Retrofit - Cable required?

Hey guys,

I have a 2009 M3, build date 9/08. My car came with an autodimming rearview mirror without homelink or compass. I purchased an autodimming homelink mirror with ghosted compass off of an unknown vehicle.

Now that I received the mirror I have been reading DIYs in order to install and many mention a retrofit cable. If the connector in my car plugs into the connector in the mirror am I good to go? What is the retrofit cable for exactly?

Thanks,

I did the same retrofit for my 2011 E90. I didn't get the compass, but I don't think that will cause any issues.

It was plug and play. If you have the autodim, you should have the correct connector and power for the Homelink. There is no need for a retrofit cable. That is apparently necessary only if you don't have the autodim.

I know it's an old post

I have a base 2013 M3 that only has autodim and alarm and would like to retrofit one with homelink, anyone know do I need new plug or just plug and play? Also, which mirror should I get or any homelink BMW mirror will work?

Thanks

I just plugged in a new mirror that had homelink and it worked. No harness or anything needed. I think as long as you currently have autodim you should be good to go.
