Acceptable wheel offset?
I am considering an upgrade on my mercedes (I also own a BMW, but their forums suck!) wheels/tires----going from 17" to 18". The front wheels currently are 7.5" with ET 45 and the rear wheels are 8.5" with ET 49. The set of wheels I am considering are 8.5", ET 38 (front) and 9", ET 39 on the rear. I put these numbers in an offset calculator and here are the changes:
front: inner clearance=6mm less, outer position=extend 20mm rear: inner clearance=4mm more, outer position=extend 16mm Are these changes in offset and wheel position substantial enough to cause any undue wear on the car or worsen ride quality? |

I have no clue what these are going on, but extending 20mm out is quite a bit for any vehicle.

I think you will be fine. 20mm isn't that much. The best thing to do is find other exact models of your car, you know on a Mercedes site, that have similar offsets to what you want to use to see if they will rub.

Offset/width of a wheel will not affect ride quality or wear on the car. It will only affect whether you will rub on the fenders/suspension of the car.
Let us know what type of Mercedes you have and we can help you out some more. We are a sponsor of mymbonline.com and should be able to help you out with your wheel selection. Shoot me a PM if you would like.
