Question Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3's on OEM 18" 219M's (staggered)

Looking to buy Nokian Hakkapeliitta R3's for an extra set of OEM 18" 219M's (staggered) that I have. Not looking to square the setup at this time.

What is a recommended size for the tires?

Stock is:
245/40-18
265/40-18

Closest R3 sizes are:
245/40R18 97T XL
265/35R18 97T XL

but I remember BMW recommending thinner ones for winter setups?

If I go with tireracks recommended size for tires, the closes R3 sizes are:
235/45R18 98T XL
255/40R18 99T XL

Also any good retailers here who sell R3's?

Thanks!

255/235/40 would be best for snow traction. That is the size I have been running on stock wheels for 9 years.

If you want to buy locally I recommend smooth auto in Medford. They are a Nokian dealer and have good prices. I don’t use snows on my M3 but had another car with R3s and they were the best tire I’ve ever used in the snow.

Sullivan Tire in NH and MA also sells them. Internet is usually cheapest but sometimes when you factor in shipping and cost of mounting and balancing the price is close and it’s good to support brick and mortar businesses. If you buy on the internet and bring the tires into a shop they may charge more for mounting and balancing than if they sold you the tires.
