Unfortunately it doesnt need frame damage to be a total...just the airbags system and interior pieces is like $6-8k. Now add the body and suspension, easily another $15k. My insurance totalled my last e90m3 @ $18k of damage.

Sorry to hear. Good news is no one seriously hurt.

Is that a ZCP? Only 1200 of them - one less hurts.

maybe totaled my car?

Sorry to hear. Good news is no one seriously hurt.

Is that a ZCP? Only 1200 in North America - one less is a bummer.

Sorry for your accident, but judging by the pictures, I would also venture that it will be totaled out. Good luck in your search for a replacement, you had a lot of good replacements listed, I'd go P-car.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but that's 100% totaled. The wheel is pushed back into the apron/body, which would need to be replaced. That's super costly to do. The cost of parts alone would be close to $10k. Headliner, airbags, headlight, hood, bumper, fender, side skirt, suspension, new wheel + tire.

I bought a similarly damaged car to rebuild and it was a total loss.

Don't know how it is in the US, but a lot of the time over here they total the vehicle if airbags go off. Judging by the age of the car, and all that its probably going to be totalled

That car is totaled, and I can't say I've ever found a reason to turn DSC off on the street, much less in the rain.

sorry for your loss OP. Yeah, Rain and M mode (sensitive throttle and mdm) no bueno for sure. Car becomes less predictable. I tracked mine a couple months back and it was raining; No M button and the car was solid (press M button once or twice and for a few seconds and felt like I was asking for trouble). Good luck on your next one; I'd say since you had it for 5 years, may be check out the F8x M for sure.

Would regular DSC mode have saved you? Who knows, but I really don't see any reason to drive around on the street with MDM on.
+1,000,000 - you were driving in the rain without your traction control? WHY? You deserve your car to be totaled.

I cannot fucking stand anyone who drives on public roads without DSC. The reason they have the other modes is for THE TRACK.

Just be thrilled you didn't kill someone, in your car or in another.

Sorry to hear it byron. That's a big bummer, though glad you're OK.

Like others, I'm assuming that it will be totaled, but I guess you'll know soon enough. Either way, ultimately it's still a car and there are others out there.

Mdm is a form of dsc... pretty far from without dsc?

now in hindsight, i definitely agree. before this i've never seen mdm put me in any situation that is remotely dangerous so i assumed it is pretty conservative and safe... but yes if i were to have the car again i will definitely just leave DSC on for street all the time...
.
First, sorry to hear about your accident and glad your are ok. It is the most important.

Second, I do want to comment about the MDM and especially on the MDM Euro. This is not for hindsight, but for others who may be reading this.

For those who know me from the track forum can vouch that I try anything and everything.

On the track!!! closed circuit, everyone going the same direction. I am in control.

I tried many tires combinations, not even same brands, not wven the same type. I drove slicks in the rain. why not.

I always start with MDM on, and take it off after two or three sessions.

Now foe my point:

1. MDM off - significant push and appropriate for the street. Period.

2. OEM MDM - less push but still conservative. Not for the street unless perfect dry conditions with you paying attention. Not for commute type driving!

3. MDM Euro. Not foe the street. Period. The amount that it allows you to swing the back out (oversteer) is not for public roads.

4. MDM Euro DSC off - not for the street.

I have tried all these combinations above. On the track. You go out of your driveway on cold PS4S on MDM Euro and you are asking for it. You stop at rainy cold day at a red light, and any heat you may generated on the road, is gone.

The reader is the driver, you are free to chose what ever mode that makes you happy. But the likelihood that you lose control on public road with MDM Euro is high on a good day. Because you don't know what's on the road.

good info... just wish i read this earlier...

there are so many ppl / threads commenting about how oem mdm is too conservative and seems like not an insignificant portion of ppl is driving on street with either oem mdm / euro mdm, hence my impression of mdm/euro mdm is pretty safe. info like this is worth sharing and it helps keeping ppl safe...

I spun out my old mustang on a freeway exit years ago because precipitation had settled on the painted arrows on the road on the exit of the corner.. it wasn't raining but a thick fog had started to roll in so moisture was in the air... it doesn't take much..

Might be a Canadian thing, growing up with a RWD Volvo on snow and all that. In my many years (28) of driving, I have never inadvertently or unexpectedly spun a car on public roads. I have spun a few times on a race track. To be fair, I have never driven a car with any form of traction control or anti-lock brakes on a track (removal of the ABS fuse should be mandatory when racing IMHO).

I am unsure why we all need to rely on the car's computer to drive for us. We should all learn to drive the cars we own. We should all fully understand the limits in each situation we are driving in. The E92 M3 is a VERY stable and predictable RWD car. That said, an aggressive maneuver in the rain is a bad idea, with or without computer assistance. Regardless of DSC, wide, and possibly worn, tires are a recipe for an "involved" driving experience.

Sorry to hear about the broken M3. Happy to hear there were no injuries.

People talk about turning DSC off like the car becomes and unpredictable and uncontrollable, its not the case at all. As Scharbag said on track with DSC fully off the E9x is progressive and communicative. DSC prevents hamfisted inputs upsetting the cars attitude, and will attempt to correct it with brakes and throttle modulation. Its quite possible in this DSC would of made no difference at all, because if the car is hydroplaning no amount electronic aids can save you.

The real lesson here is drive to the conditions, regardless of whether you have traction control or not.

OP - Sorry about your car, I know that stretch of road well!

Sorry for your loss... I hope you can find something similar to your car. Not trying to add salt to the wound but e90s are becoming much much more rare than there brother e92. Especially un-molested clean examples.

Wish you the best of luck if you do go on the journey to find another s65! I know I would...
