DCT Transmission Starting in Manual

Hello all,

I am new to this forum and just purchased my first m3. 2011 space gray e92 ZCP. Before making my purchase I borrowed a friends car 2008 e90 m3 with the DCT transmission.

Here is my question, my buddies car would start in auto when pushing the gear lever to the right, my car starts in manual when pushing the lever to the right. I have to press it to the right twice to get it into auto. I guess I would like to know is there a way I can get my car to start in automatic with one push to the right?

Lol, you must be a perfectionist.
I noticed the same thing after I purchased my car.
My observation is : it remembers your last setting before you switch to "N".

I normally drives in manual mode, so it starts in manual mode .
However, (I think) it starts in auto mode if I park the car while it was in auto mode.

Whatever it is.
Don't let that bother you, it is like one extra push, nothing is broken.

The norm would be to start in manual mode, unless you get the DCT flashed with the GTS program. Then I believe it will start out in D2.

From park, shift over once and it's in manual mode. Shift over again and it's in auto mode. That is the norm for these cars.

If you want it to start in auto on first shift then you need to get a dct tune.

This guy is right. Ask your friend if he got a DCT tune. If he didn't, perhaps the previous owner(s) did.

yup that's a sign of the GTS tune. I love it because in the off chance my wife drives the car, she waits 2 seconds after starting to put in gear then pulls out of the driveway and then bounces it off the Rev limiter for a few miles before calling me to complain.

with the GTS tune, problem solved!

I got my girlfriend all trained up on proper warm up procedures and DCT operations. She is even more careful during the warm up time than I usually am..

How come mine always starts in Auto?
Mine is Australian version and 100% sure previous owner did not get any GTS tunes

Not sure about the Australian software but in Europe they all start in D2 default. And our sw seem to have less of the lagging and clunking then the US as well...
