New 2006 date code PS2: buy or no?

Found a brand new set for dirt cheap, but the date code shows they were made in 2006. Should I get them or stay away?

Depends how they were stored and how they look. They'll be harder than xx11 date code tires regardless but they could be fine or they could be dry-rotted with a layer of tire shine on top. Coming up on 6 years which is when a lot of manufacturers say they should be recycled...

I say no. I bought old 285 width PS2s and put them on my previous car (350z) and I was able to break them loose at WOT and the back end of the car would let loose unexpectedly. When I replaced them with 265 width PS2s that were brand new, the car had more grip and and was more predictable at the limit.

Just buy em, do a burnout, then get new ones.

The first two numbers are the production week, not month, and the last two are year of production.

If you could get them to check the condition of the rubber with a durometer then you'd know whether the tires were worth buying.
